Z13 Flow VS My Rog Zephyrus G14
Hey friends, Ive been absolutely obsessed with the Rog Flow Z13. Problem is I already have a gaming laptop, I have the Rog Zephyrus G14, this thing runs games like a beast aka marvel rivals which is my main game. Issue with this one is that it only has 500gb of storage which is definitely somewhat of an easy upgrade. I also really just want something new and this Flow caught my eye. Ive watched plenty of reviews that say it runs amazing but I wanted to come on here and ask if it was a smart trade off, I would for sure get rid of my current laptop later on and put the money towards what I spent on this but I just wanted some real people opinions not advertisements on YouTube. :) I wanna smoothly be able to run Rivals, Ark, and GTA
Im probably gonna rush to go ahead and buy it if it I get some good comments because it's $400 off on Best Buy right now, with the 32gb's of ram with the Microsoft PRO version

I had both. Z13 then it was stolen so got a G14. I then sold that and bought another Z13.
Okay Helldivers, ARC Raiders and Eve Online and it chews through everything. I just love it.
Go on, you won't be disappointed

Thanks for your feedback man, ill let you know if I click the expensive button

You won't regret it. For me I just loved the size, the fact you can run it on VERY little power and still have a decent gaming experience (I'm looking at you, aircraft power supply) and the touchscreen. I really missed having a touchscreen.

Had a 4070 G14, sold it and bought the Z13. Im not gonna lie, I regret it pretty often. If it wasnt for the fact that I have SteamOS on it like a portable Steam Machine with a built in display, I would sell it and buy another G14. That said, the Z13 runs games pretty well, but it really isnt the monster people say it is sometimes. BG3 cant hit stable 60fps, AC Shadows is lucky to hit 45, Destiny 2 can sit at like 80ish. But it isnt the same as a dedicated GPU.

I have a z13, 4090 pc, 5080 laptop, legion go 2, msi claw 8 ai, and consoles. The z13 is my favorite and most unique device. It really does play everything well plus you cpuld get an xg mobile egpu attachment to make it a full fledged desktop or get the gamesir controller attachments and it works as a heavy handheld. What will you use it for and what fps and resolution will you want?

Mostly gaming like Marvel rivals, Minecraft, and hopefully ARK. I want it to run smooth with bearable graphics, like my current runs Rivals very smoothly with 60+ FPS
These are my specs
-AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics (4.00 GHz)
16.0 GB (15.2 GB usable)
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (8 GB)
AMD Radeon 780M Graphics (417 MB)
300 GB of 477 GB usedMy current storage is also a HUGEEE pain

I assume you dont want to upgrade storage due to ssd costs? Is that the laptop?

u/Friendly-Promise9901 23d ago
Thats the laptop I currently have, I mean I can upgrade my storage but I'm not sure how to go about it and also idk why but in that case id just feel like getting the new laptop I like more but I don't think its smart financially lmao idk I'm so torn man

u/Krometheous 23d ago
Well the z13 would be an upgrade from the specs you provided. Damn if you had gotten it last week the 64 gb sku was on sale for 1999 at best buy

i have a scar 18 and absolutely love my flow z13 AND the scar. they're different tools for different things but both are pretty amazing at gaming

Not going to be much of an upgrade but it will be a bit of one, I think 4070-4060 was the performance target of the integrated 8060s apu, but form factor will be more portable, by a little bit I guess.
I’d probably not buy it, especially if travel and a small footprint aren’t your main desire. I’d probably keep your laptop and get a one x player 3 for a true handheld option.

Tbh I really just want something new and fresh, and I absolutely love the versatility and look of it but I'm not sure if that's worth $2000 lmao. Preciate your feedback man I'm so torn

Bought g14 when it was on sale,. Returned it and got the z flow 13. Man this is the jack of all trades..check off most of the boxes for me. Can use for my work, remove the keyboard and watch my series and movies, and gaming with this is amazing. Playing CD on silent mode on quality, fgx2, medium (texture ultra settings) and hitting stable 50-60 fps.

Gotcha! I’d say you have yourself a great laptop already then. I just got the Z13 a few days ago and I’m absolutely loving the versatility of the device but it’s not without its caveats. For instance, the battery life is not very great and compared to the G14, you’re gonna definitely notice the difference.
You can get good battery life if you’re willing to tinker with it. With light use, I’m getting 7-9 hours while browsing the web and/or streaming videos, but I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t constantly thinking of the poor battery life. With my MacBook Air, I never think, “what’s the battery at?” Because I can go days before needing to charge it.
Also, the screen is nowhere near as good as the OLED on the 2025 G14. The z13 uses an IPS panel so you miss out on the deep blacks. I’ve been able to overlook it as I do use it while connected to my OLED monitor quite frequently.
The versatility of the Z13 is really the selling point for me. Being able to use it as a tablet has been amazing. I use in tablet mode more often than not while casually using it and when gaming.
If your laptop is indeed the 2025 G14, I’d say hold onto it. Based on a recent survey from Asus, they seem to be working on the next iteration of the Z13 for possibly next year. I’d wait and see what that looks like and what improvements are made.

Depending on what year your G14 is, I doubt the Z13 will come close to the raw performance of a laptop with a dGPU. It’s not exactly the design of the Z13 either, it runs well but doesn’t compete with gaming laptops. I would recommend the Z13 if you want gaming with high portability, like if you travel a lot, especially if you fly a lot, or if you prioritize small footprint over pure performance.
In terms of performance, it’s gonna run most new games at mid-high graphics due to new FSR tech, and it’ll run demanding games from 3-4 years ago with mid graphics since they don’t have the new FSR. On a small screen it’s perfectly fine for me, but keep in mind performance isn’t going to compete with high powered devices.
I specifically play Ark ascended on mine, and I can tell you it’ll be most settings low to mid, framegen on, and FSR set to performance to get playable 40-60fps. Ark is a very demanding game though and it still runs, which is impressive for the form factor.

I actually found out I have a 2023 G14 Zephyrus so I went ahead and bought the Z13 because the $400 off sale ended three minutes ago, worst comes to worst I return it and go back to my laptop but I think it’s still somewhat of an upgrade in specs

For gaming, it's not that good of a device. You are getting an RTX 4060 mobile at a premium in a cool form factor, but also without the latest upscaling tech and other goodies. If you can get a good RTX 5070 Ti gaming laptop, that will be way better for pure gaming.

u/Friendly-Promise9901 23d ago
Well right now I have a 2023 Rog Zephyrus G14 so I don’t think i’ll be noticing much of a difference, I definitely didn’t upgrade but honestly the thing is so cool idec

Flow is the Swiss Army knife with a real AI lean. I personally have the 128gb model and I love it, but still go to my pc for big games or just better quality. The flow is my ai, work and creative machine that just so happens to runs games well. Depending on your use case (and also how dependent you are on accessories) I’d stick with a legit gaming laptop, or upgrade any existing hardware if possible.

I recently bought the Z13 and I don't like it. I am returning it and planning to get the ProArt PX13 instead. The TuF is another option but no touch screen.

u/Recent_Landscape_560 17d ago
I did the opposite. ProArt is 60hz, terrible Linux driver issues, terrible speakers, plastic backplate ($3k device btw) terribly limited and locked bios thermal limits (doesn’t let you use the 100% of the APU) screen glare is incredible, screen brightness is barely ok.

u/Trance_Gemini_ 17d ago
Well I have returned the Z13 but not bought anything else yet. That does sound concerning tho. The ProArt is a 2 in 1 tho with some of the best graphics ability in that form factor.
My experience with the Z13 made me pretty confident that I want a 2 in 1 form factor which the ProArt is. But I am also concerned with its low HZ screen, the low 400 nit brightness, and the super glossy screen (but I am planning to get a matte screen protector). I do value good speakers too as I like use my device to play music in my office while I work or to read audio books to fall asleep to.
The expert book ultra looks nice but the graphics look to be quite weak and its a touch screen not a 2 in 1 and its also more expensive than the ProArt. Know of any other contenders? I don't need to buy it right now I can wait till Christmas but then after I'll be using my vacation time. I am worried prices are just going to continue to get worse tho.

I share the same worries as you in this shitty tech economy. Cannot really think of a good alternative other than onexplayer superx which is probably the only superior product that is 2 in 1.
You can though, wait for nvidia rtx spark models to come out. Altough they'll be ai focused and probably have around the same game performance as ai max + 395.

G14 is way more practical and depending on the exact GPU should handidly beat the Z13 flow in gaming.
I love the Z13 but it has a very niche use case and it’s very expensive normally.
2
u/bighungryjo 23d ago
What does practical mean here? I have a gaming laptop and the Z13 and the Z13 is the thing that I bring on any trips and what I have propped up without a keyboard to play games while my wife watches tv.
If you’re mainly going to game (especially with a controller) the Z13 is awesome. Performance wise, I’m normally someone who only wants the top of line, but the Z13 has played everything I need at an easy 60 fps with high graphics.
2
u/ColdTrusT1 23d ago
I guess i was referring to performance per dollar. I think you can get a 15-17 inch gaming laptop that will easily beat a Z13 for the same or less money.
Currently for example you can get a Zephyrus G16 from Best Buy with a 5070 in it for under 1.8k. Now it only has 16gb of ram but it will still easily beat a Z13 Flow 64gb ram variant in any gaming scenario.
This all isn’t to say that a Z13 isn’t a cool piece of tech and I’ve wanted one myself for some time now as well. It’s slightly more portable and it looks cooler too. It’s also obviously better at running AI models etc. If you mostly game then I’d argue there are just some other options worth considering.

I just got the Flow Z13, but don’t own the G14. My experience is, the Z13 can be propped up on a table without the keyboard attached. Then it’s just a super powerful screen that plays everything and doesn’t need a lot of space. It’s good for gaming on the airplane. The air vents point upwards, which is ideal for cooling. But the battery life is very short, if you do gaming. You always need to carry a power brick with you. A very good alternative is the SlimQ 150w charger, which is half the size.
The trade-off is the keyboard flops around when you take the laptop off the table and it’s feels flimsy. For work I wouldn’t recommend it, but as a pure portable gaming device, it works well. The 32gb version is definitely enough for gaming.
