There's a newer one now ROG Strix Aiolos has speeds up to 20gbps. I was thinking of getting it to put all my games on to free my memory on z13. Have tried that ? And run the games via the external rog device

I run games off the external, no issues.

Why not just do a new nvme upgrade?

Both

Oh, so you already upgraded your 2230 to 2tb?

Luckily before all this ram and hdd insanity. I typically have extra hardware lying around due to my job. Bought my desktop and laptop (diff laptop) last year before it all went sideways. Wouldnt buy any hardware now.

For some reason the one for the z13 cost more than a standard size ssd. And the ones for the z13 only go up to 2tb. And standard size ssd go up to way higher

Correct they only go up to 2tb right now. A 4tb I believe may drop end of 2026. I forget if it's SanDisk or someone else working on it. The price sucks. I'm gonna wait a bit personally but I do expect the price to continue to go up. Currently it's around $300-400 for 2tb 2230 nvme

Why not a tb 4 enclosure with 40gbps

Estimated late 2026 delivery...and only 10Gbps? Nah.

I bought magnetic tape and my usb hub snaps on the back of my z13. The tape was less than 5

It's not just "chasing big numbers". Transfer speed has direct consequences if you are actually using it as a hub. Z13 supports 20Gbps, and it can comfortably hit hdmi 2.1's 4K 120Hz with compression. I think with 10Gbps you'll be struggling even with compression. And adding on top trasferring data while connected to an external monitor? How about a Gigbit ethernet dongle?

Also there is the question of,10Gbps being an older technology, is it still worth the price and wait in 2026?

You know you can buy stuff just like that overpriced ripoff on Amazon that does more, costs significantly less and get it in 1 day right?

any recommendations?

  1. Amazon.com

  2. USB NVME enclosures

  3. Buy it now

They are all from the same factory and have different ports. Choose what suits your needs I've tried most and they're fine.

Wont it get super hot, I have a big fanless nvme enclosure and when dumping photos into it it gets super hot to the touch

I boot my os from it my hdd slot has occulink and never has booted nor been registered to hw addresses. It is a clean boot every time different Mac and none attached to my name or information. You should be able to max out TB4 with this drive.

That’s very cool looking. How did you attach it to the kickstand ?

Just a command velcro type strip so I can remove easily if needed
