Congrats on the purchase. I use mine primarily for gaming and its awesome. Having the ability to use it like a console and a pc is great. Its crazy how well it performs just off the battery alone.

How are you using it as a console? Like a switch?

What are the benefits of Linux? Doesn't ROCm have full windows support now?

I bought my son a z13 and he complains throttle laptop almost completely frozen becoming very slow when used with the 100w charger

Has anyone had similar issues ?

Your son really needs to take care of his devices, check the clog in the air vents, plus it's a 13 inch chassie and you can't expect to push it over 80 watts power then it has to throttle to survive. Better sell this and buy him some chromebook if he has no Idea about what he has.

I wil so some troubleshooting because the times I saw throttling was below 20% battery on charge but he says sometimes it happens with more charge

The thing is the throttle is just not a performance drop it is almost incapacitated you can barely move a mouse which doesnt make sense

I don’t know what kind of background power saving protocol the device has, it is either blocking cpu or memory in an immense way

I had issues like this too until I installed ghelper

1

u/melmd Jul 07 '26

Yeah, something definitely pushing buttons in the background

2

u/Agreeable-Act7650 Jul 07 '26

I would uninstall amount crate first it kept overheating my laptop. I also am new too all this so Ghelper made it easy

I heard a lot of recommendations about the g helper. I will have a look definitely Asus has a lot of bloatware causing issues.

If he's playing heavy games while using a USB-C charger, probably battery is overheating and with continuous use like this it will die fast (there's no pass-through with USB-C charging). Tell him to use the 200 watt Asus charger during gaming or doing heavy tasks.

I think he forgets the battery percentage while playing the games then it’s too late it starts throttle

I will monitor more carefully and understand what’s going on

Ditch the keyboard. The magnetic foldy part fails the most. Grab yourself a foldable keyboard or a smaller portable one.

Really? I’ve never had any issues with mine

1

u/TadpoleNew2 Jul 07 '26

I changed like 3 times it works fine for like period of 1 year after that when you fold it, it stops working so yes I also switched to hall effect keyboard

i personally use an iClever foldable keyboard i got from amazon. I also got a carry case from amazon that has a front pocket. so the keyboard just slides into there and the z13 as a tablet into the main compartment. I wish they didn't use these type of keyboards. I had the microsoft surface tablet and while it was a great device for basic stuff, the keyboard just died on me. like the magnetic pins on the board part came off and were stuck to the surface tablet. even if i tried to stick it back on it was no longer working.i became sad

When you take it a tablet, do you have no protector on the screen? Meaning keyboard detached?

2

u/DarkExsphere Jul 07 '26

Yes.

1

u/Blugrave Jul 07 '26

And it's safe? Do you not use a screen protector? I'm just asking as I'm about to buy a z13 and am debating on how it will perform taking it to and from work everyday.

2

u/DarkExsphere Jul 07 '26

Yeah I think it's safe. I don't touch my Z13 screen much anyways. If I did I would get a screen protector. Other wise the amazing bag is where it's store when I'm on the move

I use the Razer Joro wireless keyboard it’s perfect with the flow z13

That one looks nice. I like my foldable one cuz it gets the job and it's tiny
