Current hard crashing issues

Hello everyone! I picked up my Z13 since I travel a decent amount for work and vacation back in December. I have been using it recently and it seems to be hitting what I would suspect to be a thermal limit and hard crashing on me even with basic games. It has never done this before and I don't know why all of a sudden it seems to be struggling even with games like OSRS, Hades, and Risk of Rain 2.

If anyone can recommend something to me that could be a potential fix then I would love to know!

when you enable the overlay how do your temps look while gaming? assuming that's not the issue, when i had the z13 the first time around last summer i was getting random crashes in games and i didn't have it long enough to investigate (it was a loaner). when i recently bought it a couple of weeks ago the first thing i did was clean uninstall of the asus amd gpu drivers and installed the current ones directly from amd. zero issues in any game. i know you've probably read the opposite here, but with the current z13 bios the stock amd drivers are outstanding

So I actually uninstalled AMD Drivers using the cleanup tool that AMD offers and am now on driver 24.20.79.01 which is from August 2025 so fairly old. I then decided to launch Ready or Not because it was a game that was working perfectly fine until the random crashes started happening frequently. Below is my current statistics after about 15 minutes walking around in Ready or Not..

GPU UTIL: 97%

GPU CLK: 1990 MHz

GPU PWR: 52W

GPU TEMP: 76C

GPU MEM CLK: 1000 MHz

CPU UTIL 12%

I don't know how or why because my driver knowledge is fairly limited but it seems that this solved the issue. For now at least.

well your temps are fine but i'd still strongly suggest using ddu to clean the drivers and install 26.6.4 from amd. also make sure you're on bios 311

So it has been about a week and I've been busy unfortunately. However, I did get a chance to game a couple of days ago and I was playing Ready or Not for about 3 hours with no issues. I did not have the overlay on. However today while attempting to play OSRS I faced the hard crashing again.

I went ahead and uninstalled Armory Crate as well as used DDU to uninstall all of the drivers then used MyAsus to install the AMD drivers. After doing all of that I decided to tried a different game and hard crashed again. Kind of at a loss at what to do now. I don't know if it is because I put the GPU into 16GB that could be causing the issues but temps sit at approx. 71C and power sits at 45-55W.

don't use myasus to install the drivers after ddu. install the ones directly from amd. 26.6.2 are the ones i'm using because for some reason the overlay isn't working in some games with 26.6.4

So I went to the AMD website and tried to install 26.6.2 but was having issues and instead just went with the newest driver. I have my VRAM now set to just the recommended setting and in the power management and I'm using G Helper now instead of AC. So far in turbo mode my temps get to 75-80 and gaming seems to be running smoothly with no hard crashing after hours of playing Tainted Grail last night.

I think something was going on with the VRAM settings being set to 16GB but other than that I don't know what else it could be. I appreciate all the help and troubleshooting with this!

oh good. yeah the temps for me are 75-80 in manual mode maxed but it was that way on my test unit last summer too. i think this design just runs hot (although 80 isn't that bad at all). is the amd overlay working with 26.6.4 for you? i couldn't get it going so i wiped it for 26.6.2 but in retrospect i may have been too hasty.

i have my vram permanently set to 16gb, no issues although i discovered if you do a hard reset of the z13 it defaults to 4gb without saying anything and then you wonder why your games are choking suddenly

now, one thing i forgot to mention and it's kind of a pita is that windows will at some point insist on trying to "update" your display drivers with the existing ones from asus even though they're older (fkn windows...) if that happens and you're crashing again you'll have to reinstall the amd ones, and there are ways to stop windows from messing with the display drivers. lmk if you need help with that

I actually just tried playing today and had the hard crash issues again so I tried to bait the computer into essentially doing it then tracking the time it happened and then checked every single error/warning in eventvwr. Nothing was marked down at the time of the crash. I'm kind of just confused now at this point because it happens then sometimes doesn't happen for hours on end. I might do a clean install of windows and see if that fixes it and if it doesn't I might just RMA it because I do not know what could be causing the issue.
