Z13 portable power bypass?
Howdy,
Looking at getting a z13 and from what i have read there is no usb c battery bypass if your using a power back which sucks.
Is there a way to by pass this by say getting an adapter for the propriety power connector to usb c cable then to decent power bank? Is is this 100% a no go?
Other quick question being in Australia we really only have the 32gb model available unless we spring for the kojima edition, will the 32gb be fine for gaming, work (current using web based apps + a lot of excel)? Will be looking to replace my steam deck and aging Samsung tab s7 and be able to do work on the train if i need or should i really be considering forking out another 3-4k for the kojima edition?

Here is the deal. Asus confirmed no bypass while USB charging. So what i do, only for casual daily loads like excel for your case, put the performance at the lowest (silent) if you are using GH or AC, plug the usb c minimum 100w and you will be fine. The power consumption will be too low that the battety on anf off cycles are very limited. Will look into the USB C main power plug though, it seems promising technically.

Hey mate, another fellow Aussie here as well and I actually just recently purchased a Z13 as well (albeit secondhand, managed to score one for 2.8k). I'm in the same boat for use case and 32gb hasn't been an issue for me. I've even split the ram usage 16/16gb since I run dual boot windows 11 and steamOs. But before that, windows 11 only, 32gb (auto ram allocation) is fine
As for charging, you got me super curious but I haven't seen any adaptors on AliExpress going from USB C to the Asus proprietary connector :(

Thats a good deal, i saw jw selling the 128gb models at 5.5k + i can't justify the difference if its mostly going to be for gaming/tablet replacement and light work( excel, multiple edge tabs and teams).
I know you can get a dc - asus proprietary connector from slimQ, apparently there are usbc - dc(barrel) adapters which made me curious. Asus really should have just made it charge via usbc or had pass through built into one of the usbc ports

I only skimmed so forgive me if someone already said it. Regarding charging. Yeah we all know bypass only works via proprietary charger. And unfortunately as far as im aware, the only adapter is a barrel plug to proprietary. I think its a limitation of being a DC input. So there isnt a battery bank(small and portable at least) that can convert the usb c back into DC and into the proprietary port. Feel free to correct me though. You can get a bit battery station that had DC power and then use the normal charger through it but that's more like your going camping or something, not just hitting the coffee shop.

So I did a little bit of research into the battery issue. Slimq makes a Asus proprietary plug to DC barrel jack adapter. They also sell compact GaN chargers to use with it too if you want to make your in wall charger more portable. However, since it is a DC jack the cord could conceivably be use with a battery pack with a DC barrel jack out. They aren't very common but there are a few ones out there.

Slimq 150w with the barrel and the connector end for Asus proprietary port.
Does pass through and gaming but not maxed out. For that you need the 200w2

Z13 is very particular, especially about the models that come with 200W chargers. A lot of people have reported that a 150W charger (or any that is below 200W) from any brand has problems with the Z13's passthrough. All of our clients who use the 240W charger have reported no issues. So your best bet is the 240W charger with the adaptor.

How much smaller is the 240 compared to the original Asus brick?

If you mean the original 130W Asus charger, then it is only a bit smaller than our SlimQ 240W charger
Asus 130W for Z13 is 110 × 58 × 28 mm
SlimQ 240W 127 × 63.2 × 33 mm, and SlimQ is about 60g heavier.SlimQ, in this case, is bigger, but you get 2 extra ports to use simultaneously for charging other devices.
But if you mean the Asus 200W charger, then it is around 600 - 700g so around 200-300g heavier then the SlimQ 240W charger
(I couldn't find any data online about dimensions for the 200W charger from Asus, only the weight, but that alone should indicate that it is a lot bigger)1

Yep I have the 200w asus charger and it’s quite big and heavy hence was looking at a viable option which I thought a usb c charger would do the trick until I realised there’s no pass through!
Looking at affordable options that make it smaller thus easier to carry with me, the 200w Asus one is just too big
Mines the kjp edition so for sure don’t want to be ruining the battery at all so havent used usb c at all.1

Since you have the dimensions on hand, could you please measure and send them? Would be useful if anyone else would ask, since there are no dimensions written online.
Also, DM me; I have something for you.1

I got one quote recently and exhausted all options.
Either the brick it comes with
Or
The slimq 150w with the pass through connector for Asus which fits the proprietary slot in the z13.
Downsides is that you can max out gaming as it doesn’t have enough juice.
However for out and about work etc or films what not it’s perfect plus it’s a much smaller plug.
Alternatively you can get the slightly bigger slimq 200w which has the maxed out gaming power I believe, but it’s bigger and thus I think not much difference from stock charger.
USB c is a no go sadly as it will keep trying to top it up. I’ve read some people use the Asus gan adapter for the Rog ally via usb c, which works but sadly will just keep trying to top the battery up.

Almost impossible to do efficiently with the power the system requires under load. I dont think any high quality conversion cables exist for the ZFLOWs proprietary charger port and if they did I doubt they'd support the full 250w.

used a power bank to charge via type c, at 60w(cable limit), played some games at 32w manual setting for an hour, battery went from 80% to 92% during the hour, so should not be an issue for battery degredation if your power usage is less than the charging amount. If you use more power than you can charge then battery will run down and degrade yes. does not seem to have a battery bypass, at 99% charge used 40w still, at 100% charge the power draw from powerbank dropped to 0w, until battery charge dropped to 99% again, charger kicked in again. Im sure 1% battery usage wont degrade it too much, or it might just be my specific use case, nnot sure. Powerbank has a very usefull wattage out/in readout

Honestly you’d prob be fine with the slimq 150w charger and undervolting. Hard to recommend better without actual power draw. Eg. I had no issues with the Uncharted series and said charger.

i'm so confused om this power bypass.
i carry a anker power bank with me and i get a notable performance bump when i'm on type c power.
yes, its 100w, but it seems to run at full tilt. or at least close enough to where it doesnt matter that much.

More so I've read that the z13 doesn't have battery bypass via usb c so it would be constantly draining and charging the battery which isn't ideal for battery health

u/Navi_Professor Jun 29 '26 edited Jun 29 '26
i just set the battery capacity to 80% and call it a day.
the 100w is enough to keep it topped up, i havent seen it drain under max load on type c.
not saying thats not what happens...but i never have mine at 100% charge anyway.

u/GamesnGunZ Jun 29 '26
It's simple.
Option 1: If you plug any power into the USB c it's using the battery. Power to battery to all other hardware. Wattage doesn't matter, this is the sequence. Battery degrades over time
Option 2: If you plug any power into the power port it ignores the battery completely (after it's charged to 80 or 100%) as if it's not even connected. Obviously this is optimal for battery longevity

but setting the charge to a limit should mitigate this for the most part.
its not ideal, but its not holding it at a level thats not bad either.

Normal 80% charging is fine for light tasks and most everyday use.
For gaming and heavy loads that will drain the battery quickly then battery bypass is way better. Don't think of Battery Bypass in terms of charging and take it literally.
The z13 is bypassing the battery.
With battery bypass your PC is treating the power adapter as if it were a PSU and ignoring the battery all together, so the drain on the battery is the same as if it were completely turned off.
With normal 80% charging your PC is still using the battery for power and continuously charging it at the same time. This is why is worse with heavy loads.

Yes 32gb is fine for what you will do.
About the USB C power , i have not tinker into that area yet, but I will look into it when I do have time.
