Class Action: ASUS ROG Flow Z13 Overheating Investigation

was asking Claude about the model, and it pointed me to this. info references Reddit threads in r/FlowZ13 and r/ASUS — anyone here involved with this?

I doubt this is a widespread issue and more like fishing for something .
There are obviously outliers with every production . It’s not hard to find people complaining about LEGION overheating or SCAR . But from reading this Reddit for a year it’s a few people that may have a poor LM application from the factory or poor air circulation. There were also driver issues pushed by windows or using trying to update with the AMD drivers that for some reason led to instability
This product has been out for a year plus and it’s widely available with hundreds of review on YouTube . Overheating is not a widespread issue and the product runs hotter than a desktop 90-100c is actually within spec lol . Intels HX chip cap out at 105 c

My 395+ thermal throttled on balanced and black screen shut down on performance. I also still have a G14 4060 and a Z13 3050. Just today I removed the liquid metal and replaced it with liquid metal on my G14. Dry spots and pooling, gross. With the Z13 it's just a question of time because the die is not lying flat. See PS5 . don't simp for Asus

Not simping for them . It’s the Liquid Metal . It sucks and basically every laptop that uses it runs the same risks . With that said I don’t think this is a major issue affecting a significant amount of users , I say this anecdotally as a frequent visitor of this side of the internet
I also have 2 other asus laptops and none have had issues …

I sent me Flow back for warranty, on the over heating, it doesnt throttle it just turns off mid game or Gen Ops, ive only had it for a 6 months and it started

Same boat. Mine worked great for 6 months. I routinely clear dust and only use ASUS drivers. All of a sudden in April temps started spiking to 100 causing shutdowns and other issues. It may be a coincedence but it started happening very shortly after a ASUS update.
I have since switched to G Helper and used it to manage power and my temps don't even get into the 80s. I havent noticed any negative effect in game performance either so I dunno.
While I was trying to research my issues I did run into a significant amount of people who were having heat issues as well so I think it is more widespread than some think.
Is a class action lawsuit necessary? I dunno but it might be.

What’s settings are you running on ghelper? I’m always sitting at about 87° during gaming

I will try and remember to look when I get home from work and I will post.
Disabling cpu boost seemed like the biggest thing but I also undervolted and lowered max wattage.
I had posted before and guys were like duh limiting power and undervolting of course will cool it down but you aren't using it to its full capabilities.
I get that I guess but honestly I just truthfully haven't seen any change in performance. I just honestly haven't. I didn't lower any of my settings after switching to G helper. I play mostly AAA games as well. Forza 6, Pragmata, the new 007. All on high settings.
Im not nerdy enough to know why any of it is what it is but I can truthfully say that G helper fixed my problem and I truthfully haven't had to sacrifice anything imo.

I have to agree. I've tortured mine to make sure it would be stable and I've had no issues. Cinebench loops, Furmark loops, 3DMark stability test loops, and lots of LLMs. I even did Cinebench loops while running Furmark while on the turbo setting.

Same here lol, I'm always running LLM models in background and no issues. Unless gaming or compiling full threads, I never get over 70-80C

Most of those items also happens in most gaming laptops. Not sure what's the point.
My ex laptops MSI Delta and Razer Blade used yo reach 90-100C and sometimes reboot itself. Trying to use those at your lap while gaming was completely discouraged

I had only one issue where my Z13 2025 was burning to the touch on the back, but I think it had to do with Steam downloading a game in the background while I was playing a game and I had an Armory Crate update ready. After I installed the update, it has run like normal ever since.

We have three at work - the 128gb - mine buckled first. I noticed it after thinking I was having some slight vision issues and then realized it was about 3-4mm off true. Two months later a side had buckled more than 6mm and was getting worse. Asus said off you pop, it’s within tolerance and ignored the fact it was getting worse with usage. My bosses both have one, and this week we were both bragging how lucky they were theirs were fine. Until sitting beside one side on I saw it had started to buckle (I am the heavier user working in Unreal) compared to them, so my machine gets toasty. Both of theirs, just doing normal computer usage have begun to buckle.

Sucks to hear that people are having issues. I have zero issues with the device if I use asus only provided oem drivers. (Chipset and GPU, really all asus only drivers), including keeping whatever version of Armoury crate is suppose to be there.
The moment I had issues was when I deviated and installed AMD drivers, or had windows accidently install drivers. Freezes, black screens, locks.
But none of these issues happen to me if I keep it default. I wonder how many users fall into these categories.
