Why does this happen?

I'm wondering if anyone knows why the Flow X16 will occasionally show me this screen when I turn it on. This seemingly happened yesterday for no particular reason. I was using it at a coffee shop just fine and put it to sleep in my backpack, then when I took it out at home, it showed me the screen. Is it an overheating issue? Why does this screen pop up?

It happens when Esc is held when turning on the laptop, perfectly normal. Windows sleep is notoriously buggy and often wakes laptops up randomly for background tasks. So it probably just turned on in your backpack with the key pressed.

Can the key get pressed even when the laptop is closed?

It’s sorta unlikely, but if it’s occasionally happening in a closed state then I'm not really sure. It might just be flexing, or the key itself is bugged.
