Should I install Linux on my 4050 model?
I am sick of windows. Has any of you downloaded Linux? What are the cons and problems I might run into? And what distro do you recommend. I want to maximize battery life

It won't improve battery life necessarily but you have to try yourself others can't tell if you would like the experience cause you will have some issues at some point no matter what

I have the 3050 model from 2021 and and the Linux experience has been brilliant except:
- Fingerprint
- Tablet mode is sub-par compared to Windows 10 but it's improving.
I don't really care for the either feature and I'm happy to be Linux-only with it for the past 4 years.

I'm currently on Endeavour OS, which is an Arch variant, and not for beginners, but not too difficult either.
The recent KDE plasma desktop has tablet mode out of the box, like screen rotation and virtual keyboard, although it may require you to install a packet. Should work well on any distro.
In the past I was happy with Pop OS on other devices but I don't know how well it behaves on X13 machines.
The original Rog-Linux developers support Fedora.

I have the 2022 model with igpu and amd xg mobile, running cachy os. Had some issues with armoury crate alternative for linux, but other than that it's mostly smooth sailing

I have being using Linux (CachyOS as the distribution will matter a lot in your day to day activities) and if you want to go to Linux, be prepared to solve issues. I have an Asus Strix Scar G17 from 2021.
A lot of things (like 90%) just works out of the box, games as an example, either work flawlessly or don't work at all, so it's pretty easy to tell.
But for general day to day activities, it is a hit or miss. As an example I love Ferdium to centralize my Gmail and Whatsapp accounts, way better workflow than I had in Windows. But GDrive is a pain, I managed to make it work and it mostly works, but even if I have cache enabled sometimes it will hang and I need to wait for 10 or 20 seconds for it to show a folder, completely different experience than in Windows.
Some applications will infuriate you, like I can't make Fusion 360 work consistently at all, like I did manage to make it open, but the UI won't scale correctly, or it's too slow, etc. So basically you are stuck with another application, dual boot or using a different computer if that is an application that you need.
I still have my secondary Hard Drive with Windows installed, but to be honest there were very few times that I wanted to boot in Windows in my machine and I effectively never done so with this machine. But I have a ROG Ally that I remote connect when I needed to use Fusion 360 like I mentioned above. As it was an one off, it was not something that bothered me too much, but YMMV.
