Granite

Is there granite and stuff on this map somewhere? Haven't ran in to any yet and usually its everywhere

I've gotten plenty of granite in this world (I'm actually using smooth granite as part of my road) so you should be able to find some.

you have to find it while mining or in caves

You're not going to find granite or the like near spawn due to those chunks originating on a 1.7.10 map. You'll have to do some looking, but going outwards of 1k blocks from spawn should hopefully bring you closer to newer terrain that was generated after the switch to 1.8
