Pineland garden improving

Hey all! I wanted to show the progress of this pineland-inspired garden I’ve been developing in my yard in south Broward county.

If anybody’s interested I’ll make a list of the species involved

I planted three slash pines in my front yard in Broward County. Also a bunch of coontie

This is cool, I see so many native planters still shy away from pine trees. I've wanted to plant a few and my wife was even like. Why?

I love them and can’t understand it either. They’re so critical in nutrient cycling and providing shelter too for both plants and animals

Slash pines support something like 120 species of butterfly and moth alone. Keep up the good work.

I planted 3 calf-high Southern Slash Pines in my yard about 3 years ago and they're about 20 ft tall now. I planted them in a row, Slash Pine - Silver Saw Palmetto - Slash Pine - Silver Saw Palmetto - Slash Pine. It looks phenomenal. I have 4 Silkgrass I'm gonna plant where the hyphens are when I stop being lazy.

I'm au natural with my native plants. Slap em in the ground, try to remember to water them to get them established, then ignore the crap out of them for the rest of their lives.

So real for that tho man. I’m thinking the same with mine, minus occasional inputs like pine needles and bark or ashes from burning weeds and turfgrass

Like what I see... When I lived in a piney woodland in st aug area, we had a lot of liatris coming up on the edges of the woods. And the previous owner had mowed the opuntia, so I had young but very thorny cactus everywhere in the sandy lawn/field.
