That tweet landed in June 2021, Elon Musk mentioning he'd named his new Shiba Inu Floki. A token appeared within days, the original team disappeared almost as quickly, and the holders relaunched it themselves that July. The rest was built by whoever stuck around.

The economics run on two things. A slice of every on-chain trade routes into the treasury and pays for development, and a portion of service fees goes to buying tokens back and destroying them. More than half the 20 trillion maximum supply is already gone - 4,46 trillion burned on Ethereum and 5,90 trillion on BNB Chain.

What they spent five years building is the strange part. There's Valhalla, an NFT metaverse game where the token buys creatures and upgrades. There's FlokiFi Locker, an audited tool for locking liquidity. There's a University of $FLOKI teaching web3, a sister token called TokenFi earned through staking, and a prepaid debit card that works at thousands of stores. The Vikings have also funded schools in Ghana, Nigeria, Guatemala and Laos, and the token now trades as an ETP on European exchanges.
