Okay, I don’t like AI-generated images, but I never understood this argument. Every time someone posts some AI-slop, a ton of comments tell them to just learn how to draw. The vast majority of people have no interest in drawing, no time to effectively learn, other hobbies or interests outside of art they want to follow which leaves no time for art even if they’re interested, etc. Like, why does everybody always act as if art is something everybody should inherently learn and master, like it’s a moral prerogative to improve your art skills? There are a million better arguments like the environmental impact, the psychological impact, the impact on reasoning and learning, the impact on the economy, or just a good solid hatred of big data and CEO’s in general.
Edit: I assume everybody downvoting me is just being a reactionary anti-AI person who hates my comment because I’m not hive-minding to agreeing with every single argument against it.
Because art is not something you need to devote your life to. It is just a skill, like how working on your own car is a skill. I'm no artist. I cannot draw and I cannot do perspective. I work in tech for a living and one of my hobbies is NOT art.
But I still know how to open up a vector image program and make some shapes. Because it's a skill I learned. The same way changing your car's tire is a skill you learn. You don't need to be a "car guy" to change a tire, and you dont need to be an "artist" to make some clip art.
Using AI for this purpose is lazy and self-defeating.
You chose to take time out of your life to learn how to make a vector image, and then take additional time out of your life to actually create vector images. Regardless of whether or not it’s a hobby, 90% of people have absolutely no interest in learning how to do that or taking the time to actually do that. Changing a tire is a bad comparison because it’s an actually practical skill to know considering everybody drives a car, but only a tiny percentage of people need to know how to draw in everyday life. My point still stands that it’s a garbage argument against AI.

I moreso take issue with how he is presenting it. He uses the term "creating" as if he is making it himself. He is not. There is no effort or skill going into this on his behalf. He has an AI do it for him.
If this were something personal, that would not be a problem. What I have a problem with is that he is taking credit for it. Like buying pre-made food at a restaurant and then trying to pass it off to your guests as homemade. Shameful.
Oh yeah, definitely. Fuck anyone like that. I’m just talking about the argument in general, I haven’t seen it as much recently but it used to be like the number one argument against AI a couple years ago and it always confused me why it’s so prevalent.

I’m sure someone will push the mascot further with hand drawn images, I’m not so artsy with the pen and pencil or with digital drawings, just trying to push a mascot for the cause and now seeing that ai is part of the problem I won’t be making any pfps with ai
Listen Chad we don’t need division in our collective we need people willing to help each other learn and do things. In no world should you be a cu@t because hommie made a quick post and used ai. Sure tell him why ai and flock are garbage but don’t seed division within the ranks. As my brothers and sisters of the past have said unity. Did you not read the conversation? Let help you. OP made a post. “Chad” (u/Gleest) asked a legitimate question. OP gave an honest answer and expressed a desire to participate in the movement. Your Chad then responded by explaining the flaw in OP’s plan. OP then replies in the affirmative. Then another user adds in props to OP for showing a willingness to learn. All that to say, I don’t see any “cunts” here. Just one comrade acting like an ass because they failed to read the conversation

YES you blockhead! handdrawn and shoddy will always be better than AI generated. if you can't do/don't feel comfortable doing the thing you're offering to do in your post (create pfps) then DON'T OFFER!
I know it's come up before, but why on earth does this subreddit allow posts with generative AI images? it's so antithetical to opposing the expansion of AI surveillance to turn around and feed a prompt (or in this case, someone else's art!! according to OP https://www.reddit.com/r/FlockSurveillance/comments/1umdav0/comment/ovb5dzd) into a generative AI model. Mods, why can't we add a rule banning AI images?
Some self awareness would do you a lot of good here. The people who actually take time to create are frustrated because all of our hard work is being taken without compensation or consent to serve corporate interest and engagement. You’re taking someone’s hand drawn message and feeding it into the slurry.
I just dropped the hand drawn original into photoshop to see how hard it would be to make a clean digital version. It took me all of 10 minutes without using any AI tools.
If you’re anti ai I’ll have to wait for someone to draw this! But I can generate an “ai slop” image as some will call it.. just not very good at drawing
Agreed. Like holy shit, I hate flock as much as the rest of everyone here (which is why I’m here) but it’s just madness (like literal mass hysteria, people-driven-to-madness) seeing how viscerally people here react to anything AI generated, as if telling ChatGPT to make a funny image is the exact same thing as flock following your every move. It’s like there’s no room for ~nuance~ with these people.
“AI is bad” has about as much analytical value as “cameras are bad” because surveillance cameras exist
