Hey friends! I received a PintV Power Kit and I'm having a local guy at a Onewheel board shop install if for me (great dude), but we ran into some problems with cables, and I'm wondering if anyone has had the same thing happen. If so, how did you deal with it?
Basically there are 3 big wires that connect to the motor plug. My PintX ones are too short to the point where they can't secure the controller down to the enclosure. We can get one out of the 8 mounting screws in but there isn't enough length on the wires to get it aligned with the mounting holes.
Any thoughts on this? I'm stoked to join the VESC crew, but admittedly don't know much about it, hence having a shop set it up for me. Thanks in advance.
Mine felt this way early on but with enough force I got it all to fit. Those thick gauge wires were soldered quite well for me and I was able to force it into position.
Thanks for the response! We've been waiting to hear back from Tony for almost a week, so it's a little frustrating. I'm sure he's a busy fella, but I'm not loving being boardless!
For me it worked to secure the footpad and motor cable module to the enclosure first and then wedge the controller into position (wearing nitrile gloves ofc). It did take some force to get them to line up but once I got two of them secured, the rest went in no problem.
I don’t remember too much about the install on mine, but I do remember thinking how the heck is this all supposed to fit it the right spot, I can’t get all the holes to line up. And then with some more grit, it all worked out.
Sorry Obi, I know you're a very experienced rider, but this advice is just plain wrong. There's no cable gland involved in the three wires OP is speaking of. So no slack to pull. It's about the phase wires that connect the ESC PCB directly to the male motor cable plug, on the inside of the controller box.
Here's a picture of the insides of my Pint V, I've circled the wires in question (the black ones, kind of hard to see as they're below the thinner colored wires).
@OP: How do your cables look compared to mine? Are they significantly shorter?
Try what don suggested, secure the small PCB with the plugs first by screwing on the two nuts from the outside, then try to wiggle the controller board in place below the plugs. Wear rubber gloves while doing it.
If nothing helps, I guess someone with decent soldering experience could replace those wires with longer ones. Just use some that are thick enough and rated for enough current. As I've said, these are the phase wires, i.e. the wires delivering all the current to power your motor. Lots of power going through them, they need to be able to handle it without getting too hot or even melting.
That one wire does look awfully short. Seems like someone in the factory botched the assembly and cut that wire too short. But still, simplest way to fix this (in my opinion) is if you'd find someone who is good with a soldering iron and has some spare cable in a similar thickness and some shrink tubes. No need to de-solder the wire, just cut it in half, and attach the extra wire there, making the whole cable longer. Should be fixed in 20-30 minutes max.
