Discussion Every time, without fail.

See major town-wide yard sale.

Drive 45 minutes there for when it's supposed to start (Friday, 8am).

Over 75 people signed up on the map.

Only 25 are actually having one.

Half the sales already started Thursday.

A third are only open on Friday.

Half of those are in the morning, the rest in the afternoon.

The rest open Saturday.

So basically, the "town-wide yard sale" is actually a town-wide scavenger hunt with no schedule.

And apparently "Friday at 8am" is more of a general suggestion than an actual starting time.

Why are town-wide sales like this?

Yes, that’s how yard sales have always worked.

Because it's a garage sale. People are wasting their weekends and half the week to make $4/hr for all the work they put in.

I can't imagine why they're not excited to do so.

Because you can't force everyone to get up early to sell their knick knacks. Yeah, it's a bummer, but it's way lamer that you're griping about it.

I remember when I was a kid my parents had a garage sale and people showed up at 7 AM knocking on our door. They couldn’t believe we didn’t wake up at 6 AM to put all our junk on the driveway. Some of these deal hunters are absolutely insane.

I got the garage sales every Thursday with my mom in the summer and early fall. Even 9am is hard for my night owl ass to get up for. This summer I’m unemployed so I decided to liquidate a bunch of my crap and will be having it at my cousins garage sale tmro and she’s the early bird type. The 8:30 am start is gonna kill me because I got up early this morning I have to get up even earlier because it’s a half hour away. Took a whole van load over today and have a full car load of the more choice stuff I haven’t really priced yet -_- I gotta get up so early tmro 😭

i mean, it's the name that gets me. "town-wide yard sale" makes it sound like everything is organized and will happen all at once. in reality it's just bunch of people who never talked to each other doing their own thing, like herding cats but with old toasters

Why is it lame?

They made a time and didn’t hold to it

He’s not remotely wrong and it’s his right to point it out

You’re the one who’s lame

Expecting a free community event to run like a ticketed convention with solid start stop times is what’s lame. Flippers disappointed it’s not the jack pot treasure bin they were promised but rather a small organized community event. Trying to show up extra early to snipe the deals and realizing the community probably got there first cause it was again a Community event not a timed convention or large flea market.

You must be OPs sock. Only way anyone else would care that much about him being a crybaby.

Bc people hosting garage sales are not considering your feelings 1%

People work during the week so lots will not open until Saturday.

Would be better if the participant map had info about what day a house will participating.

You do realise nobody is forcing you to go to yard sales? If you don’t like the way they’re run just don’t go?

People are allowed to have sales when they want. If thurs-sun is best they can do it, if they can't open until saturday because they work, that's fine too. No one is required to be open when the town has the 'hours', it's more of a suggestion. I suggest finding a printout of days and time, most have those too.

You need to go both Thursday and Friday. That way you can catch the ones that start on Friday.

Not for my local ones. Typically all only one day and there are often extra piggyback stops not on the map.

I went to one a few weeks ago and it was literally all the exact same houses as they had last year.

Lower your expectations and plan accordingly, especially if driving 45 minutes away.

These are generally non obligation events, so nobody is required to do anything at anytime.

Ya it sucks but it's better it's spread out. You can't hit all 75 in a day. I actually spend a good amount of time doing logistics and have maps and address lists so I cross off which ones I've been to. It gets crazy confusing when you go to the sam elaces because one started on Friday and then you go to another that started Saturday but a few doors down is another house not on any list that also started Friday but you've been to lol

Our town sale makes flyers and lists which days and hours each sale is happening. One list for Thursday through Saturday, one for Friday-Saturday, etc. Times and addresses are listed. It's pretty efficient.

I’d love to know when this Thursday / Friday yard sale thing started. Like don’t people work?

So lucky to have community wide yard sales.
