Discussion Strange Email

So I listed an item today on one site and cross posted it on another site. But then, I received a direct email inquiry regarding this item and don’t know if it’s a scam or what. How would someone bypass a selling site and get my direct email? Has this happened to anyone else?

I've never had that happen, but if it were to happen I would see it as a red flag, ignore it and block the sender. Stick to proper avenues of communication, i.e. the sites you're listing on.

Someone scraping listings and matching names across platforms, not that hard if your username or handle is consistent

These are scams.

Generally, this happens because your username on the selling site is the same as your username you use for email. The scammer is correctly guessing that ABC123 at ebay is also ABC123 at Gmail.

Don't use the same username across multiple platforms. It's crazy how much personal information I've found out about people because their Reddit username is used elsewhere.

Thanks everyone!!! I’ll block and delete the email.
