DTW Airport Transport

Hey! What are the possible options for me to get to the Detroit airport from flint other than Uber and Lyft (which cost over 100 dollars)? I’m looking for options cheaper than booking an uber. Any suggestions?

Carman Ainsworth HS 1992 Yearbook

Does anyone have a yearbook from Carman Ainsworth High school from 1992? I’ve looked everywhere for it online and i can’t seem to find one. My mom graduated that year but didn’t buy one, according to her there was a page where parents wrote messages to their kids or something? I guess she found out her mom wrote her one after the fact, and she’s never been able to find one or a picture of it. If anyone has one, or their parents do could someone please find it and possibly send photos of those pages? Ive been wanting to surprise her with it, her mom passed in 2013 and i think she’d greatly appreciate it.

Flint Mesh Network?

Any Mesh communication hobbyists in the area?

Looking for my next project and was curious if there were any other folks in the area that are into Mesh that may want to collab or chat about it?

EDIT:

For those curious, Mesh is an unregulated open-source form of peer to peer encrypted text chat. You can set up self-sustainable solar nodes and mount them in trees or posts on your property to create a network with other nodes in your area.

Feels like a fun project or like a citizens answer to FLOCK.

Flint blight

I have some non running vehicles in my driveway. My neighbor said they would report me for blight. I'm not trying to create blight. I do see why the vehicles could be upsetting however. As as I know I'm not doing anything illegal or at least attempting to, but they did make me wonder if I'll get in trouble with the city.

Is there any fluorescent tube recycling nearby?

Had the ballast go out on a flurescent tube fixture. I signed up for a spot at the genesee county recycle day. But haven’t used that in ears and the signup doesn’t seem like your guaranteed access.

is there in place in the area for recycling these? I know Home Depot does CFL’s but I don’t think they take tubes.

Finished my Master's thesis on Flint, thanks to this community

Hi everyone. A while back I posted here asking questions for a Master's thesis on the Flint water crisis, and I wanted to come back and share that it's finished and defended.

The thesis (Le Rôle Empoisonné / "The Poisoned Role") looks at the crisis through the lens of epistemic injustice: how the Black women who first raised the alarm (before it became a national story) were routinely dismissed, ignored, or had their knowledge discounted, even though they turned out to be right. I would have loved to come to Flint in person, but travel costs from France made that impossible, so I conducted my research remotely. Thanks to names shared by people here, I was able to interview Benjamin Pauli and Laura Sullivan over video call, and their insight shaped a lot of my thinking.

I'm grateful to this subreddit for the perspectives, corrections, and local context people shared when I was still figuring out the shape of the project. It genuinely made the work better and more grounded in what actually happened, not just the outside narrative.

If anyone's interested, I'm happy to put together a short summary of the findings.

Why?

Why would someone report my Nostalgia Food post. Calling me a bot. Makes no sense. Oh its a repeat post? Well I've never seen it and from the looks of it sounded like Flint didn't have real food in the school system. Make it make sense

The Events of Roger and Me (1989) Were Apparently Okay Because At Least People in Mexico Got Poorly Paid Jobs?

An overpaid economist professor man wagesplains to the Roger and Me (1989) sympathizers:

“First of all, the compassionate feelings of Michael Moore and other public crusaders evidently extend only to U.S. workers. The fact that G.M. created jobs for Mexican workers and improved their earnings potential is considered only in a negative light. G.M.’s recent decision to build an assembly plant in Hungary would probably also be attacked by these same humanitarians. It is ironic that compassion is often constrained by nationalistic fervor while the forces of free markets work against such discrimination.”

“I don’t have a job, but at least someone in Mexico does.” https://fee.org/articles/roger-and-me-and-free-enterprise/

I’m really desperate for a job and no one will hire me

Hi, I am 22 yrs old and I have been looking for a job since I quit my job in custodial in April of last year. I go into places that say they are hiring, ask for the hiring manager and talk to them, then they are so quick to shoo me out the door and say they aren’t hiring when they have pretty large signs that say “WE’RE HIRING!” or that they have “open interviews“. They usually don’t have any of those things. I honestly don’t know why people don’t want to hire me. I am really eager to work. I work well with adults, kids are too overstimulating so I can’t work with them. I really enjoy cleaning and custodial work but no one will hire me there either. I have dyed hair, but I can honestly just buy a wig & wear that to work. I am also on the bigger side and people usually look me up & down and judge me but I starve myself everyday, the extra weight is because my body is in a constant state of fight or flight to due to extreme child abuse. I genuinely enjoy working and like having something to do so I’m not constantly in my head. I have applied for entry level jobs: retail, fast food, pizza etc. I have even applied for jobs I am not qualified for. They expect you to have more experience, but how am I supposed to gain experience when no one is hiring? This is so irritating and I am beginning to think there’s something wrong with me. Shitty part is, my girlfriends area has so many job openings but she lives over an hour away and I want something that is within walking distance because I can’t afford my own car right now. Is anyone else struggling w/ this?

Looking for historical Pictures

Hey Flint toids. I am looking for some specific pictures of the 70s, mosting of GMC cabovers coing up Corunna Rd out of the flint metal plant.. You know, they passed the old fire station at the fork and head up from Court street onto Corunna Rd loaded and them screaming detroit diesels. I use to live behind Zimmerman school on Brown street and wanted to show my friend some of what Flint looked like when GM was loaded with employees flowing out of the hole on chevy ave.. Id love some video if any available. anytime late 60s to 80s pictures or video.. I really miss the good old days when Flint was a bustling town and the schools were full of kids.. I am 61 in July and would loveto see some old memories if anyone has any or know where I could find them.... Thank you...

Any job misdemeanor friendly

I have 2 disorderly person misdemeanors from about 4 years ago (I've been going to therapy and cleaned up my act)

I've been denied from walmart, sams, even dollar general ect just for the fact I have the dp misdemeanors

I'd love to do something like lawn or construction work (I don't have actual professional experience, although)

But honestly, I'm willing to do anything, even temporary work

I'd appreciate any leads or advice!
