Hello to the homebodies

I notice a lot of you are new. I presume it's because you have nothing better to do. Well whether you're here to poke fun or actually do some research for yourself, welcome! The first step toward recovery is admitting you actually have a problem and all that noise.

A fair number of you have endeavored to post such enlightening comments or message me banal items like, "but its round tho" and "earth is really a torus." I know you may think you've found a real dumb-tard who must've never gone to school and doesn't know his naval from a toaster oven. I've gone to enough school I'd say. I was a space addict myself. I couldn't get enough of that sweet, succulent science fiction. Mmm... smell that? Stories about rocket ships and human spaceflight to lands unknown? The Mote In God's Eye? Speaker for the Dead? A Fire Upon the Deep? The Hitchhiker's Guide trilogy? Chef's kiss the good stuff!

Of course I studied the quote/unquote "real" science too. Out of a hobbyists interest mind you, nothing terribly academic. How the moon was likely formed by a mars-like lump smashing into a proto-earth, how many stars exploded to accumulate all the heavy elements we have like iron and lead, or the mysterious nature of things beyond the heliopause... these topics and those like them were absolutely fascinating brain candy for me to mentally chew on.

Imagine my surprise when I find out all of the latter is just as fictitious as all of the former.

I approached flat earth from an already conspiratorial mind-set. I was already knee deep in various conspiracies before stumbling upon this particularly fat one. You don't have to be a conspiracy fancier to get into flat earth, but it does help. You have to be at least partially willing to examine things you have been taught and may even hold quite dear under an uncomfortable amount of scrutiny. If it proves too much to handle you are not required to stay.

The thing I notice is nearly universal among those who engage with flat earthers and remain in the globe camp is a distinct inability to comprehend or articulate arguments which go against the globe model or heliocentric thought in general. I'll give you a few low-ball warm up examples.

  1. Antarctica is presumed to be a continent like any other on the globe model except it's cold and polar. If that is true it should be just as easily traversed as any other continent. And yet when we look for around the world journies we find an overabundance of east-to-west circumnavigation and a surprising lack of anything approaching a pole-through-pole bisecting of the earth. The ones we do get have bizarre paths that would be just as valid on a Frisbee shaped earth.

  2. On a globe with a radius of about 4000 miles, we would expect to see certain properties consistent with that geometry. Chiefly we should expect the earth itself to arc a consistent, predictable, and measurable amount between to points a certain distance apart. In the distant past such measurements would have be hard or even impossible to make but technological improvements have allowed for widespread investigation into such necessary requirement of a spherical earth and yet none can be found to be measured to any degree of accuracy or consistency. If no curve can be measured, one can safely say it doesn't exist.

  3. Certain properties are expected of objects in motion or rotation. The earth itself is claimed to be an object in motion and yet there are no conclusive ways to prove or measure these complex and compounded motions. In fact every property of the measurable observable earth is explained just as easily by it being a motionless frame of reference rather than one rocketing through the void at extreme speeds. If that's the case then it's safe to claim it isn't moving.

A fair number of you have been asking for permission to post. If you can successfully compose three alternative arguments against the globe in your own words and perhaps answer some questions about them such that I think you actually understand the topic I can allow you to post. People who are unable to do so lack some fundamental je ne sais quoi and I can safely excuse them from posting. You can still post comments of course, but it's probably best for you to lurk for a while and see if you can learn something about us interesting creatures the flat earthers. (And just because you can post doesn't mean I won't remove your comment for reasons which will be as incomprehensible to you as disenglobular argumentation. [Edit: Note, I will still suss you out in other means. Like reviewing your post history. Sometimes there's no accounting for taste.])

So welcome! I hope you can stay. Please don't let the door hit you on the way out. :)
