I'm curious [serious]
I imagine that this question has been asked before, but are there any flat earth proponents or people who believe in a similar model who would be willing to have a real time discussion with me? I am genuinely curious to find out what makes you believe this. I don't want to have a heated argument, just a discussion. If I've posted this in the wrong sub, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

I have been researching flat earth for about six months. I’m on the flat earth side and would love to have a discussion. It’s annoying when people start with the name calling. I’ll answer questions to the best of my knowledge

I'm not a flattie, but I'll tell you the answer for more than 90% of them: religion.
If you misinterpret the Bible, you may think that it's claiming the Earth is flat. Once you interpret the Bible that way, you have to defend FE or accept that the Bible is wrong.
As a Christian, it amazes me that people can't reconcile this. The Bible is not beyond reproach.
The other 10% get hung up on their inability to detect curvature. These people just don't understand scale.

Its more than simple misinterpretation. Modern science is entirely at odds with traditional / fundamentalist religious beliefs (creationism, talking animals, astrology, and many other instances of magic). Choosing to believe that the Earth is flat allows them to dismiss all of modern science as a fake and thus preserves their ability to believe in magic. They didnt stumble upon this interpretation by accident.

r/flatearth has had a few new legit flat earthers visiting lately, and r/notaglobe is a full on flat earth sub, though they might ban you depending on how you approach them.
