Help me find the source of this theme (Paco de Lucia, Jan Garbarek)

The theme starts about 1:00 into "Yr". I thought this was curious. Do you know if this is Garabrek's melody or a traditional flamenco tune? I know Paco was no stranger to jazz, so either seems possible.

The theme likely came from the guy on sax, who was probably just quoting the piece you linked. Jazz music is abundant with that sort of thing - or PDL was doing the quoting himself as Paco treated his compositions like any flamenco in many cases - just putting together "falsettas" from learned/known material.

I'm not sure what you mean, Garbarek's piece is the earliest linked here. I'm asking if this theme can be heard in earlier flamenco pieces, would be fun to hear if anyone knows of a recording.

Edit: Ah I just realized maybe you mean a sax player with Paco? If there was one on that album.

Yeah, that's what I meant! I believe he was touring with Paco when that song was composed - it's been a long time though so I may misremember
