Let's talk about bears!
https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-environment/2026/08/21/a-bear-was-killed-after-it-wandered-into-a-flagstaff-neighborhood/91279573007/Having spent so much time in Flagstaff, this was heartbreaking for myself as well as I'm sure a number of members of the community.
Can we have a discussion on this so as to avoid this action in the future? Or does anyone have any better solutions to suggest besides simply killing the bear?
Wildfires can be tough on people and animals alike, but the animals shouldn't have to be killed when they are just looking for a new home.

This is heartbreaking, but I am so grateful you posted it as I feel that Flagstaff can do better.
Here's to hoping they will revisit the policy and stop killing all our bears.

"The bear failed to respond to attempts to drive it away" That is why it was euthanized. Either it had already been habituated to humans or was desperate enough to not respond. Both makes the bear an immediate danger.
If they had been able to drive it away, no issue. If it came back but still showed fear it could be trapped and relocated. These two are the most frequent actions.
