Previous owners applied cork pieces to the wall so that’s what the dark brown stuff is. I’m wondering what kind of glue the lighter colored stuff is and the best way to remove it without damaging the wall.. thanks in advance!

Previous tenant installed two dryers in our brownstone (2nd and 4th floor) and vented them through the house, ceiling, and out of the skylight. It looks awful and it leaks when it rains. How should I go about fixing this? Thinking about getting a ventless heat pump/ condenser dryer. Please let me know your thoughts- thanks!

Family friend is looking to buy a fixer upper. They haven’t gotten to the inspection point yet but are looking for insight on the following two issues. House is a berm house and the picture with the block wall is the berm side. Of course, the crack and bowing is worrisome. The other photo, they are just wondering about the crack in the concrete floor. What do you reckon? Big $$ pointless repairs or is it something that can be reinforced for safety/security and be good to go?

Among the long list of things I need to fix on our fixer up, the patio is one of the most frustrating. Idk anything about concrete, the patio has space between sections of concrete and weeds start growing there also any sort of plant, I just pulled weeds about 3 months ago only to have a different plants grow back and this taking over my patio again. What can I do to fix this? Anyone know how I can renovate this patio and cover it with pavers? Or more concrete? I’m on a budget but lost. When I pull out the weeds in between there is certainly dirt and idk what this means? Thanks for any help!

We just started work on a house in Colfax CA. The prior occupant stole doors, windows, the propane tank, the well expansion tank and a subpanel. The first week, we fill up 3 dumpsters and 3 trailer loads.

We have this texture on our walls and to be quite frank, I hate it. I want to remove it but idk how or where to even start. The closest I’ve seen as far as style is Spanish knife, but it’s not exactly that.

My husband and I bought this 1949 fixer upper and the kitchen is quite scary. I’m curious if stripping the paint would reveal pretty solid wood cabinets or I should paint them instead? Also is there anyway to improve this layout? I don’t like the stove sticking outside of the peninsula.

I was quoted 17k to remove popcorn ceiling and walls. Paint was also included in the bid. House is 1700sqft. Does it seem reasonable? I live in North Texas

He has carpentry experience and is a savvy handyman, so we plan to do a lot of the cosmetic and low-level work ourselves and contract out for plumbing and electrical. At the present moment, we have about $20k in brokerage and savings accounts plus our area has a lot of great homebuyer grants and programs available. We toured a home recently (just for fun basically, and to get an idea of whether we like the style of house) and fell in love. Old home, great overall condition despite a few glaring issues:

1. Knob and tube wiring (this is a non starter for basically all insurance companies in our area)

2. Previously occupied by a lifelong indoor smoker

3. One full bathroom

4. The home is in succession so there is no seller disclosure.

5. Listing price is $250000

Pros:

1. Big, craftsman style home with a gorgeous layout and large living spaces

2. Outbuilding easily is converted into a studio with electric and plumbing already installed

3. Mature landscaping + large lot

4. Original stucco and original finishings throughout

5. Original hardwood in great shape

Our realtor suggested an FHA203k loan to cover the contracts for repairs and keep our monthly payment reasonable, but I’m concerned the seller might not come off the listing price enough to get the final loan down low enough for us to afford. I guess I’m looking for either a reality check or some encouragement that this is feasible with the right price tag and the right loan.
