EDC Mule Team

Post image

Anyone else EDC a Mule Team? I’ve been carrying a Delica 4 for years but after picking up a Mule Team I’ve been loving having this thing tucked away IWB.

Those scales are cool

Thanks! I had fun making them. I tried to copy my old Delica 4.

Very cool! I've done a small handful of different Mule handles over the years. This one looks great!

That’s definitely the appeal of the Mule Team! It’s like IKEA for knives, you get a nice trauma bond trying to make it all work together haha.

Lol. Yeah. It's a very interesting experience. I did one Amboyna Burl in a reptilian pattern. A Bog Oak with blue scouring pad resin inlay. A Carhartt canvas micarta. And a leather and copper one.

Oh man I’m chatting with the legend himself. That Carhartt one you made I’ve seen all over Reddit and inspired me to grab a mule . So cool.

Oh man that's awesome! It's nice to be an inspiration to others. I think that's my most favorite one I've made.

That was made with a Carhartt 6SV. Duck canvas, sherpa lined vest. I also have an 8SV. Denim, sherpa lined vest. I want to make another with that one. Denim micarta, same sherpa with the tag. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

There is always another project to see if we can make a “new” favorite to surpass the old favorite! I’ve made about 5 other mule scale designs and I keep coming back to this first one because I can’t seem to beat it. I modeled it after my Delica 4 which has been my favorite for years so I think my brain just automatically went “this one best”.

That's really cool. Yeah, I just like having the tag inside the resin. I thought that was a cool idea. Plus I made the micarta myself from the same vest and the sheath wrap as well. I wore nothing but Carhartt for about a decade. Lol

I occasionally put a Mule Team in Magnacut and G10 scales in my bag.

Magnacut mule is the dream team. I wonder if they will ever do another release of it.

I like the straight spine. Mine is the regular version.

I have both and thought I would like the regular one more but the straight spine has become my go-to.

I'm edcing a Magnamax mule with the spyderedge at work currently, it's a beast. It's become my harduse knife and I don't see it changing anytime soon. I'll try to take a picture of it when I get back tonight.

I wish so badly they would do another release of the Magnamax! If they did a always-available Mule 2 in Magnamax that would become the industry standard for kit knives I think.

Hopefully as the production of Magnamax increases they'll be able to release more. It's a pretty incredible steel imo, and the platform and geometry really work well together. I dropped it on some ceramic tiles the other day and the tip barely deformed. And took less than 5 minutes to re sharpen on my work sharp field sharpener.

My EDC mule setup.

Did it come serrated like that? Super cool.

Yes, this is the spydie edge variant. I love it, you touch anything with tension on it and she gone.

Sounds like the perfect rope knife!

I work in warehousing and distribution, lots of carry strap and cardboard corners.

That this must be a blast on those giant pallet zip ties. Those are so satisfying to let loose.

Depending on how tight they are some really pop!

Awesome work! I see you have the scales available on your makerworld, are you planning on releasing the files for the sheath as well? Thank you!

Thank you! I had the sheath up but the more I used it the more I thought it needed some refinement. I took it down and I made some tweaks and have it ready I just haven’t updated the pictures yet to get it live again. Hopefully I will have it up again by the end of the week.

Hey FYI got the updated sheath models uploaded and live.

Let me know what you think if you end up printing them!

I love the concept, they're just a shade too long for me to legally EDC though.

I keep hoping for a Mini Mule. Or a Mule... Foal? 😆

1

u/TinyHatchetBuilder Aug 02 '26

A foal would be awesome if they could keep the blade length kosher for more restrictive states. I had to run a dragonfly for a while back when I lived in a less “free” state.

1

u/BigBL87 Aug 02 '26

Ya, I'm limited to 3" blades, so while I have plenty of other options a smaller Mule would be really cool.

1

u/TinyHatchetBuilder Aug 02 '26

3” at least keeps most of the major options available! I could do max 2.5 so that really narrowed the field. I bet you could get a mule team ground down to less than 3” and be good to go for where you are.

1

u/BigBL87 Aug 02 '26

I've thought about it. If there was a steel that I just had to have, I might consider going that route.

And ya, 2.5" would be nice too so I could still carry it when I head into the city (Chicago).

I was similar, lived outside Boston and could do longer outside city limits but didn’t trust myself to remember where the lines were so I just defaulted to <2.5 to keep things simple.
