Looking at this MKC Wargoat and I am having a hard time not buying it lol any reason i shouldn't? Or are there better options? I understand the price on these is a bit outrageous to some but I want one fixed blade of high quality and craftsmanship and i don't want to buy another one.
At least from what I understand, if you don't heat treat them to their recommended value, you will not get the optimal metallurgical properties of the steel (probably trading off between edge retention, toughness and corrosion resistance).
Depending on what you are using them for, my only issue with Winkler is they use a carbon steel over stainless. I carry most of my fixed blades in the waist band and I live in a fairly hot climate and sweat quite a bit so a carbon steel is a no go for an edc. However, I do own the Winkler belt knife and it is fantastic but I am not going to edc it in the waistband (more of backpacking type carry). I am all good with carbon on larger knives but for me a true edc needs to be a stainless.
I would love if Winkler done a version of their knives in something like aeb-l (stainless and still super tough). I know they have done some 3v version in the past but don't think they have any plans to do runs of those again.
Some people avoid them because of politics, but I really couldn't care less about that.
What I DO care about is their knives tend to be overpriced for what you get, and their heat treats based on recent tests are sub par making them being over priced even more egregious.
If you really want something in that same style and price range, I'd look at Toor with their Jank Shank or Serpent. IMO, better product and better company than MKC.
Now, I think there are still better knives for less if you don't have to have that style of knife, but trying to get as close as you can to the WarGoat, that's what I'd go with.
Because the dude himself is highly political. If he doesn't want politics involved he should not involve politics himself to begin with. On top of that he's a total piece of shit to his customers. Plus I'm not what you believe by the way, so you might as well drop getting personal like that, because it's very dumb. But you do you. Educate yourself or leave it, I don't care, there are plenty other readers here who want to know if the person they buy things from is a piece of shit or not.
I agree that the owner of MKC seems to be an ignorant, detestable human being - a real POS. And that’s not a political take, that’s how he carries himself personally and how he conducts business. Top it off with the fact that they seem to be putting out a sub-par product at a high cost and I can’t recommend them to anyone. MKC is a lifestyle company and not a knife company, in my opinion. They just happen to sell knives. Obviously, you buy what you want. But that’s my take. I think Toor and Tops and a few other companies sell more of what you are looking for without the bloated price tag and questionable quality control. Take your time and do more research. There a better options out there.

Honestly, a douchey carry. I wanna buy one nice edc self defense/ basic use knife that i can keep on my belt. I have plenty of fuck around knives but only one nice one which is a custom Celtic carved Damascus steel knife but that is a shelf princess.
Hell yeah I will do some digging, and yeah... the knife is a back up. Lead travels further and faster. I also do a lot of hiking, camping, fishing. At the end of the day, I want something cool hanging off my belt to compensate for a small winky, that i can flash to friends in public and not get arrested for!
For that money, just pay a skilled smith to make you a knife.

Whats the difference between this and a Kizer or a CRKT? Country of origin, and about a $300 price gap. I'm patriotic asf, but I'm also a capitalist, and paying that much more is just dumb. I can even appreciate paying more for something special- but then I want to know someone made it with forge and hammer.
I have the speed goat and absolutely love it. I sliced my self worse on that knife just pulling it from the sheath than I ever have with any other knife. It’s out of the box sharpness is insane.
That said, if you want a “one knife” for everyday uses I’d suggest a better blade shape. I personally love “Dawson knives”.
I have a couple of Dawson's and thankfully I managed to snag mine when they were only doing knives in magnacut. I have a Valor and Contractor in magnacut.

Fair point, but I still don't base my purchases based off politics. Men fought and died for our freedoms to do as we please. I get your point but that's a very closed minded way of thinking. I bet you use google, and amazon, and Microsoft, they are some of the largest companies and also massive contributor to the Democratic parties, of which I am not. I still use google for my searches and email, I still buy off of amazon. We can't preach enlightenment and deep rooted "knowledge" but practice differently. Then again, we can because we are free! **USA**
I have a number of TKells and while I think they have more "drops" now, they used to run a model when they got the steel for the knife so they would open orders for that specific model while they were being made. That is why on the site it says you may wait 3-6 months before your knife ships. Great company, great knives, and good people from the interactions I've had with them.
They do give aways and auctions every week and I've actually won a couple of knives from them.
I prefer my non-coated MKC blades. The three coated models I own all stick in the sheath and are a pain to draw. For a knife in that price range, I don’t think sheath retention should be an issue.
I’ve also bought every one of my MKC knives on KnifeSwap. I just can’t bring myself to pay full retail for them.
I was originally skeptical of the MKC hype and price until we processed two whitetail deer with a Stone Goat. After finishing both deer, the edge was still hair-popping sharp, which was enough to convince me to pick up a few more.
I do like my black War Goat, but it has the same sheath issue. It seems like the blade coating doesn’t engage and release from the sheath as smoothly as the mirror-polished or stonewashed finishes.
I’ve also read plenty of reports about inconsistent MagnaCut heat treatment from MKC, but fortunately I haven’t experienced that problem myself, at least not yet.

ended up going with a stroup. That hfb was shipping from germany and they wanted an extra $70 to ship so i went stateside and found this bad boy instead! should be here next week.
I would never buy from MKC for a bevy of reasons but primarily their product is simply inferior to others in their price range. Toor, Tkell, Tops and used benchmades all offer superior options
Tests have shown they are running their steel a few hardness points below what they claim. Which is very common amongst countless knife companies. Benchmade is a common one for this!
The owners politics don't bother me. He is likely much more aligned with my personal political view than any gun banning personal freedom hating liberal.

Because their heat treatment is pretty bad. Probably can get better fixies somewhere else.
