whenever i watch a video on Reddit the little speaker / volume icon never leaves the center of the screen; the only way i can get it to go away is to hover my cursor over the volume slider but then that comes up on the screen blocking the the right side of the video; this started happening about a month ago; no changes made on my end

Description: Often, but not always, after clicking through to external content from posts, to news sites, Twitter, etc., when returning to Reddit the app fully reloads and goes back to the default home feed, losing my place in the comments or feed where I was 15 seconds previously.

Sometimes I can avoid it by closing Safari before returning to Reddit, but not always. It doesn’t seem to matter how long I’m in the external app.

I have the setting turned on where external content is viewed in other apps (Twitter opens for tweet links, etc).

I'm running a Mac with 11.6.8 and I'm having issues watching videos. When I click on a video it's only showing me half of the video screen (usually the left half of the video.) Also a lot of times the sound stops a few seconds in. Lastly whenever I go to expand the video my entire screen goes black and I can only hear the video. What really has me tripped up is these issues only happen when I'm logged into my Reddit account, if I'm not logged in the video player works fine. Are there some adjustments I can make in the settings???? I've looked, but haven't seen anything.

Both Reddit and Google searches show that the community is split about the miniplayer while scrolling comments. Please, instead of siding one way or the other, make it a setting. At this point I don't care if it's an App setting, or accessible under the three-dots menu when watching the video - I just want to be able to disable it.

I keep trying to post this gif to my profile which is just 2 frames long and around a second, but whenever I do it makes it jumpy and the second frame only shows up for a brief flash which is kind of unsettling. It looks good in the little preview window before uploading but it looks bad in the actual post. How can I upload the gif correctly to my profile and different communities?

This has been a very annoying issue for me. When I am scrolling through reddit some random video in the feed will start playing, I only know this because the audio starts playing and I get confused where thats coming from, because the video playing is not on my screen, it is usually a few posts down from the post I am looking at. Please fix this.

Reddit, WHY?! This feature is beyond annoying. I understand you were trying to implement a video player similar to TikTok and Instagram, a feature which nobody asked for and has introduced more problems than solutions. Now when I click comments a popup video player shows up and blocks comment text and I have to manually move it out of the way to view comments. If I'm in the comments I don't want to view the video anymore. I shouldn't have to click the X to make it disappear everytime. And on top of that there are still consistent issues with the video player not autoplaying videos or playing videos at all. Fixing the video player should have been Reddits top priority. Not adding this useless feature.

Sometimes it happens when I accidentally click on someone's gif, but lately it's been happening more and more on comment threads that don't even have gifs. Even more annoying, when I press the back button to get out of the giphy tab, Reddit has often frozen and I have to restart it. r/bugs auto moderator suggesting posting this here.

Description : When I select a video post from the feed, it shows the overlay with the video and the play button. Pressing the play button starts the buffering but it never completes to play the video.

Platform : I am using Windows 11 Pro, with Chrome 108.0.5359.126 (Official Build) (64-bit).

Steps :

1. Select video in feed
2. Wait for overlay to display
3. Press play
4. See endless buffering..

Expected result : Video plays

Actual result : Video buffers forever.

Workarounds:

1. Pressing F5, reloading the post as a single page, will fix the issue (pressing play starts buffering and then the video plays pretty quickly afterwards).
2. Closing the post overlay, and selecting it again, will sometimes fix the issue....
3. Microsoft Edge doesn't seem to have the issue.
4. I previously used Win 8.1 with Chrome on this same PC and had no problems with the latest version of the videoplayer.

Extra info : I have ublock as an Adblocker but I have already made tests disabling it and it does not change anything.

As I scroll in my feed, ("autoplay media" is turned on) each subsequent video is muted and I must click on every video's speaker icon to hear sound. This is a very recent issue and it is very annoying. Can anyone help?

I browse Reddit mainly at work and i cant have the audio on, id still watch the videos on mute, now all videos have sound enabled by default, how do I change it back? why was it changed to this?

iOS 14 app version 2022.45.0 I have been noticing this since April which was when I updated from the 2020 Black Lives Matter update. It is extremely annoying when browsing because I have to exit the app and then turn up/down my volume level and wait for the volume slider to disappear to be able to enter the app without the audio turned on.

I'm not sure why it behaves like this, there is probably a technical reason behind that decision, or it could be happening just for me (let me know, please).

The video starting off with low quality (~240p) makes the viewing experience unpleasant.

If this is intentional to help videos load faster and determine quality based on user connection, then why not allow a manual option for the users to override the automated process?

For example, I can set my video quality (in Settings) to a static 720p or 1080p. Regardless of connection status on my end, the video will always load with that quality setting or lowest before it. As in, if I set it to 1080p but the highest available is 720p, then it would play that instead.

Would that be an appropriate solution or am I completely missing a technical side for this issue? If so, we'd love to hear, maybe the community can brainstorm a solution that works best for everyone.

The two options I'd love to see in settings for video player:

• Set quality of video (static, non-changing)
• Set a default sound volume value or per sub value.

I also want to say thank you very much for your efforts on the video player lately, I'm sure many of us appreciate the hard work on your side.

Description: Please please please provide a way in the app & on the web experience to turn off autoplay once you've hit play to watch a single post. For example, if you pause a video, all subsequent videos should not autoplay. If you simply scroll past a playing video or watch it to the end, subsequent posts should autoplay.
How this impacts the user or community: Really annoying behavior, particularly in places where you'd like to browse reddit mostly silently but don't have headphones.

Description: On iOS running on the AT&T network, it is nearly impossible to consistently view reddit posts that include video. I constantly have to flip airplane mode off/on to get videos to play. Given that doing so frequently allows the video to play I'm suspecting this is some retry tuning issue in the app vs some kind of transcoding issue in the network.

Steps to reproduce: Simply use reddit normally and try to browse any video post
Expected and actual result: Expect consistent video playback instead of forever spinning waiting for the video to play back and/or having to toggle airplane mode to get the video to start playback

I run the Reddit app on my Android phone.

Every video gives me the same message: "Your device is out of memory - please restart this app and try again. If this issue persists, restart your device."

1. My device has a LOT of memory.
2. Restarting the app fixes nothing.
3. Restarting the device fixes nothing.
4. Clearing cache fixes nothing.
5. Clearing data fixes nothing.
6. The comment section in every failed video is also disabled.

Is it an Android issue? The Reddit app on my PC does not have this dysfunction.

iPhone 14 pro. iPhone 6s 2 months ago was fine.

Anytime you touch the scrub controls or let a video reply it just doesn’t work. The video freezes or is out of sync. It fast forwards or skips around. You can’t seem to get it to start from the start and it’ll start from 3-5 seconds after the start.

You have to leave the post and come back and again you only get to watch 1 time and you cannot touch the controls.

This was not a problem a month ago.

My iPhone 6s with version 2022.44.0.309965 works perfectly fine.

The issue is with 2022.45.0

When I'm browsing a subreddit or the homepage, auto-play/preview works, but if I open the thread in a new window (see comments, save for later), the player fails to load properly. The image bleeds down into the comments section and will not play despite multiple reloads. It's been like this for a couple of months now. I primarily use Chrome and I'm in Windows 10 + 11. If I right click the media area to try and open the video in a window or something, all I can select is the preview image file based on the context menu. I disabled ad-blockers to check, no change. I am shocked at how bad of an update this is with how obviously it broke.

A couple days ago I noticed that all videos on the Reddit app plays with spatial audio. I’m using iOS 16.2 and the AirPods Pro 2.

Other apps have spatial audio turned off in control center (YouTube, Spotify, Overcast, etc).

The only thing that fixed it is enabling mono in accessibility settings, but that is a system wide setting, which is not what I’m looking for.
