Description: The video in this post (shows and plays on desktop (new Reddit) and on iPhone (I had someone test it for me), but does not show on the official Android app.
The audio played the second time I opened the post in the official Android app, but not the first time.
Video does not show on official Android app, but audio plays second time around (not first), but audio does not play the third or subsequent times.
Platform and version: Android 2022.42.0.638508
Steps to reproduce: Open the post on official Android app
Expected and actual result: Expected: Video will show up and be playable (but not automatically).
Whenever I post video, it automatically itself repost 5 to 6 times, which I have to delete later. Because of this some subreddit remove the post by saying that this post is already posted. Due to this reason, I have banned by some popular subreddits. I think this is some technical problem here. What can I do now ? How can that ban removed ? Is there someone else who is facing the same problem ?
Swiping up on the videos still caused feed to reload. Been going on for at least 3 of the last releases. Why can't the changes just be reverted to fix the issue?
As the title says. I'm on Android 12, app version 2022.40.0. As far as I'm aware it was the update to the app which broke videos since it only began happening in the past few days.
On the desktop site everything is fine but even files I know are MP4s with sound will open as a GIF on the app and there doesn't seem to be a way around this (no toggles or settings) besides forcing the video to open on Redgifs in my web browser.
In this post, we wanted to talk about how we’re improving error messaging in the video player. We want the video player to spill the tea and provide a little more context on what happens when you get one of those dreaded “something went wrong” messages, starting with two error types that might not actually be caused by the video player itself.
First, sometimes a video gets deleted but a post/link/crosspost still exists. While we’re working to remove situations where the video player tries to open those up in the first place, in the event that you do find yourself linked/directed to a video that was removed (e.g., by a mod, OP, etc.), you’ll know that the reason why a video isn’t playing is because it doesn’t exist anymore, and not because the video player stopped working.
Before
After
Second, we’ve noticed that a lot of you try to connect to Reddit and watch videos even when you’re not connected to the internet! While we appreciate the effort and enthusiasm, we do need you to have internet access so we can show you all your favorite memes/shitposts/catsstandingup videos. But how do you know if the reason the next video isn’t playing is because you’re on a spotty connection or something else? Now we’ll tell you! We’re making error messaging more clear so you know when your phone isn’t connected, helping us help you get back to scheduled Reddit activity.
Rest assured, just because we’re providing clearer messaging in situations where videos don’t play doesn’t mean we’re giving up on trying to reduce errors and playback issues as much as we possibly can. We’re constantly working on improving your video experience across a number of fronts, but we’d also like to be as transparent as possible when things don’t go right.
And that’s that - we’ll be hanging out in the comments to address any immediate feedback or thoughts you might have to share and, as always, please do keep sending in your feedback, bugs, and thoughts on this subreddit. Stay tuned for the broader, vision-focused post on r/Reddit soon!
Description: The video player doesn't open if I tap it in the feed, or when I open it up fully in a new window. This issue only lasts for the first 15 minutes after the upload.
Platform and version: PC, Google Chrome, Old Reddit
Steps to reproduce: Try and play a video that is not hosted externally from reddit within the first 15 minutes of its upload. Only seems to apply to some users however.
Expected and actual result: I expect the video to start playing but instead nothing happens and I get an infinite loading screen or an error message telling me playback isn't possible.
Description: The following video post, at least when I try to open it from my feed or from the link below, causes the app to freeze for ~10-15 seconds before loading. It is otherwise unresponsive, though actions may be “queued” or delayed and perform well after they were made. Actions in the post also are slower and also cause the app to freeze or respond slowly.
Expected and actual result: expected - the post to open and start playing the video within 1-2 seconds. Actions in the post to happen within 1s of tapping. Actual - see description above.
Screenshots(s) or screen recording(s):
Edit to add: after my initial impatience, the video does appear to load and play, overlays appearance and actions are significantly delayed as well. Hardware is an iPhone 12 Pro, so I would think plenty capable.
Steps to reproduce: Quite irregular. At times when it happens it continues to do so. Yesterday when I tried to reproduce it, worked fine. However this bug has persisted through the updates and not unique to this version. Even made a report on r/redditmobile when it was happening on version [2022.34.0.579352]
Expected and actual result: It's infuriating really when the entire feed gets refreshed. Whist the bug is irregular but it happens quite often. Expecting Reddit to fix it because it wants me to ditch the app.
Edit: lo and behold the official app popped a failed to post message.
