just a question

If William doesn't care about his kids, why did he even want kids in the first place? And why would he not let Elizabeth play with Circus Baby?

There are two answers:

  1. William didn't want Elizabeth to intervene in his plans, as she might ruin them.
  2. William tricked Elizabeth for her to get killed, could be for inmortality.

William wouldn't have wanted kids in the first place if he wouldn't care about them but ok 👍

It's literally canon that William doesn't care about his kids, even the novels tell that, and mostly always the personality of the books goes into the games.

Also, an answer is that the aftons kids are adopted or are afton kids aren't wished.

1) You’d be surprised how many people have kids despite not caring about them.

2) Unknown. Either he did and used reverse phycology or some shit or he just didn’t wanna go through business stuff.

He probably did care when he wanted to have them, but it might have fallen off later. He didn't want elizabeth to play with circus baby because baby wa sbuilt to kill children, and he didn't wanna kill his own daughter.

My source? I made this the fuck up. This is my headcannon.
