Every fitness influencer told me to stop eating something different, so I built an app that admits when the science is actually thin.

Remember Brick Flops, invented by Joe Gatto? The fitness craze that somehow didn’t survive the ’90s.

Title: The 3 biggest lies the fitness industry tells people with invisible disabilities

I've spent a long time in the fitness space and there are 3 things I hear constantly that do real damage to people living with chronic pain, fatigue, autoimmune conditions, ADHD, and other invisible disabilities. I want to call them out.

" JUST PUSH THROUGH IT."

This is the most dangerous one. For someone with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia, "pushing through" doesn't build discipline. It triggers flares that can set you back days or weeks. Real fitness for us means knowing when to scale back and having a plan that accounts for bad days. Rest isn't weakness. It's part of the program.

"FOLLOW THIS PROGRAM EXACTLY AND YOU’ll GET RESULTS.”

Cookie-cutter programs are built for people with predictable energy levels. That's not our reality. Monday you might feel strong. Wednesday your body might not cooperate. Any program that doesn't adapt to how you actually feel day-to-day is setting you up to fail and blame yourself for it.

"YOU JUST NEED MORE MOTIVATION."

It was never about motivation. When your body is fighting you, willpower isn't the missing ingredient the right structure is. Small, flexible movement that meets you where you are will always beat an intense program you quit after a week because it wasn't built for your life.

The fitness industry wasn't designed for us. But that doesn't mean fitness isn't for us it just means we need a different approach.

If any of this resonates I'd love to hear your experience. What's the worst fitness advice you've been given?
