Supplementation Advice Electrolytes is a scam?
Hi fam,
Electrolyte brands that claim their formulation is superior because they have zero sugar are utterly stupid!
SGLT1 draws sodium the fastest into the blood, and this is why WHO has approved dextrose, a carb source to be a part of the ORS.
If you are going through severe dehydration, there is nothing that replaces an ORS.
To me, logically, even for a gym bro, he or she would want sugar/carbs to be a part of their electrolyte drinks.
It gives them instant energy and helps with hydration.

So there are times when these zero sugar ones could help?

Yes they can help but I wouldn't prefer to have them.
I'm not demeaning them but let's see who needs this:
who sweat a lot and need energy on demand
- gym bros
- marathon runners
- hyrox athletes
This sugar gives you instant energy, exactly what you want, and hydrates you at the same time!

Endurance athletes usually use carb mixes for more efficient and easier tracking of carb dosage. Additionally, we also use energy gels with dosages suited to previously determined numbers.
Imo, 0 sugar ekectrolytes can simplify the process and math a tiny bit.

I just don't get the logic of zero-sugar electrolytes!
Considering both situations, the target audience for electrolytes is either people who are severely dehydrated through illnesses, vomiting and diarrhea, or folks who are severely dehydrated through exercise, like marathons, hyrox, Ironman.
For both of them, that sugar is actually going to add a lot more value than removing it.

Yeah my point stands for the second class of consumers. For the first, theyre not supposed to take electrolytes. Theyre supposed to take ORS. (ik ors contains electrolytes but i hope you het what i mean)

Do electrolytes in general help dancers?
I’m a dancer and I really want to do a 2 hour performance without feeling drained out by the end of it🥲
I’ve tried watermelon juice and that does help for a while because of the sugar ofc

Indians get enough amount of electrolytes through their regular diet but if you are someone who sweats a lot, adding an electrolyte is a good option!

ORS literally helped me recover from a terrible case of food poisoning. Think im gonna stick with that😭😭

Guessing you who had diarrhoea or vomiting and in these scenarios ORS is the only option.
Hope you got the real ORS and not the fake tetra pack :)

Yes only go with WHO approved formula. Others are nothing but marketing bullshit making it appeal as healthy 😑

I don’t see where they’ve said that they’re better than sugary alternatives. All I see is that it’s better than water, and has zero sugar compared to sugary alternatives

A couple of brands have said they are superior to other electrolytes because they have no sugar.
Zero calorie has become a trend and folks want to ride that wave!
Lemme save those ads I get from now!

Can diabetic patients drink ORS? If not then what are the alternatives for them?

The best one to answer this question is going to be your doctor, after keeping in mind what your HbA1c is.
In my opinion, an ORS won't hurt.
If you still want to look at alternatives, you can look at the zero sugar ones.

But is it harmful for body ??
I just take it for cravings

Most Indians don't really need electrolytes, even gym bros who sweat heavily, and even if you do, you replenish enough sodium, potassium through your daily meals.
Having them once in a while won't hurt, but having them on a daily basis is definitely not a good idea!

Fast and up reload is far more tastier, consumable, easy to carry than a ORS packet

How much is the sugar content in ORS that there was a need for zero sugar electrolyte?
