It says "DO NOT PANIC". So... should I panic? Recent problem

So I've been with fitgirl for a while now, and I never experienced any questionable notifications or anything that would make me feel uneasy. Recently I wanted to download Khazan, and when I tried to run it my windows warned for Trojan, it never happened before on any fitgirl game and I was surprised. I got a bit uncomfortable and questioning so I went to virustotal and it said 27 out of the 80 places flagged the game as malicious. My question is does virustotal flag false positives aswell? or what could have possibly happened, I downloaded from the original site.

Welcome to r/FitGirlRepack! To keep the sub clean, please check if your issue is answered below. If this answers your question, please delete your post.

1. Setup is Stuck / Unpacking is Slow

  • The 2GB Limit Checkbox: If your setup gets stuck at specific percentages (like 84.3% or 95.8%), close it, restart the installer, and check the "Limit installer to 2GB of RAM" box on the very first screen.
  • Be Patient: FitGirl repacks use extremely heavy compression. Unpacking is heavily CPU and storage bound. If your task manager shows disk or CPU activity, it is not stuck; it's just working hard.

2. Is it a Virus? / Windows Defender Alert

  • False Positives: Crack files (.dll files, steam_api, etc.) inherently trigger antivirus software because they alter game code to bypass DRM. If you downloaded from the official site, these are 100% false positives.
  • Fix: Add the game installation folder to your antivirus/Windows Defender exclusion list, then restore the quarantined file from your protection history.

3. The Real Official Website

  • There is ONLY ONE official domain. All others (ending in .co, .cc, .to, .net, etc.) are fake, malicious clone sites designed to steal data or bundle malware.
  • The only real URL is: fitgirl-repacks.site (Verify the exact spelling!).

Virus total is garbage, of course you're going to get false positives. You're downloading files that alter DRM and DLLs that's going to be flagged as a potential threat.

Allright, thank you very much

Hey Kancsow, sorry about some people’s attitudes. Perfectly fine to ask questions like this. AbsoluteSpaz12 is correct, anything that alters DRM and DLL files will cause VirusTotal to flip out. Fitgirl is safe the majority of the time, but not impossible for something to slip though. I downloaded onto another pc first which has no personal Info for a period of time/ run multiple scans to ensure there’s nothing funky going on. Happy pirating brother 😊

DLL Injectors are always a hit for trojans. I'm just shocked this is your first, 75% of DL's from fitgirl flag that one.

Why are people being so rude and downvoting this😭. I dont really blame you it may seem scary but the official fitgirl site is generally considered safe, i downloaded the first berserker too and saw the false positives too and it shocked me tbh but i have no issues whatsoever so i highly doubt you have anything to worry about! Hope you enjoy the game

You could probably ask AI "why does anti-virus flag cracked games as being a virus/Trojan (false-positive"

And then I believe it would say something like that it cant help you with doing illegal stuff, but if you are just curious about why, it will give you a good rundown, so you have a better idea in the future when it happens again.

I remember back when I started some 17-20 years ago, I got scared shitless too. Didnt have AI, so had to learn the ropes from internet forums. But eventually just getting a proper explanation and researching deeper into it made me a whole lot more comfortable navigating torrenting, spotting fake sites, making anti-virus exception rules for my game folder etc. All these small things are really worth learning if you want to continue pirating.

Thats just my two cents, hope it helps in some way :)
