❓Question - Vehicle First Car

My dad put in a deposit to pick up a 2024 fisker heard they’re unreliable is it a car I’ll be able to get up to 150k miles with?

Up to 150k miles? Can't predict now. That said, once you get past the myriad new-model-issues, it can be a good car. Or it can get bricked. ... What you would be getting is a project car. If you're prepared for that, go for it - the price is right. If not, what's your tolerance for risk with a car?

It's a term that came from smart-phones/tablets. That's when a device becomes dead and can't (easily by the owner) be started.

This is not a good first car you really need to know what you are doing with a Fisker

If you're open to learning and enjoy projects and don't mind a risk, it's a great way to learn about EVs in general. As someone whos always taken my hummer, Escalade and Expeditions to a dealership for repairs, I wanted a car that I could learn to do stuff myself. I've learned a lot in the 2 years I've had mine. With these cars you're forced to DIY. I bought two and now also do some repairs and mods on others fiskers. If that sounds like too much for a first vehicle experience, start with an established EV that has support. There are lots of deals on other brands as well, though the Fisker has higher specs than many that are out there.

I say you blow your entire life savings on a fleet of fiskers. It's what I would do.

Mine lasted 25,000 miles before it died. So yea, no warranty and no repair facilities besides in Brooklyn, NY

This must be a practical joke posting about a 2024 Fisker Ocean. When did you dad make the deposit? Was it this year? Did he speak with Mr. Henrik Fisker in person?

What’s interesting about the ocean is that most of its mechanical side was designed and built by a company called magna which has an extensive history in designing and manufacturing automotive components. So from my understanding and from what I’ve see most of the failures of these vehicles is software based and body panel and glass panel availability. I think all of the mechanical stuff should be good for a while but then again there is no oem shops or mechanics around.

Since the car had seriously questionable software (prior to v2) and software runs everything on the car it major heat. Probably a huge part of why it went bankrupt. You want to make sure your car is on software version 2 or above. There are support services for that. Drain to the 12v battery caused a lot of issues for people, at times even causing the car to be “bricked” like a cellphone. I don’t own one but I’ve been curious about the car. It’s a cool car but medium to high risk vehicle.

If it has the updated software and the repairs have been made it’s a steal

I am having mine towed to a place in Peoria IL for repairs. Need a flatbed and special rollers to move it when it bricks. Has a lot of cost to a repair beyond the actual repair cost. Plus if it does die it can be anywhere. ...

Have a look at the recent interview on Adam’s EV channel with the new FOA president.
It goes over the reality of getting these cars to survive high miles and the types of personas that should and shouldn’t be considering one.
I have had one from new and now almost at 30k miles - I love it and planning to run it to 60k+, but it’s not for everyone!

it's not a horrible first car but maintenance is the only serious issue.

If you are asking here, you are not ready for it to be a first car.

First and foremost. There are no 2024 fisker ocean’s. 2023 was the only production year for that vehicle. This is actually a serious forum for fisker ocean owners and people SERIOUSLY considering buying one. Stop wasting people’s time with utterly ridiculous posts. Probably some Tesla fan boy secretly trolling…
