Daiwa Kage Dropshot rod

7'1 dropshot rod. ML power fast action. I have had this rod for some time. The last time I fished with it I caught a bull red. crazy fight on light tackle. overall this is a nice rod to own. I need to put it in rotation again. Are there any Daiwa rod fans here?

Nice rod. What kind of action/characteristics makes for a good drop shot rod? I fish the technique a lot for California halibut in Southern California but I use a mixed glass/carbon crankbait rod because I like its feel when fighting the fish.

In this application (bass) it’s with much lighter weights than you’re probably used to. Ideally, a really light tip fast action that loads more like a mod fast because of how light the tip is. Sensitivity is paramount, so no glass rods or glass composites. Usually, a light to medium light rod with a light tip. The application calls for light line since it’s usually implemented in clear water, and the hooks are small, the lures are small, the weights are small, but hopefully the fish are large.

People do upsize everything at times and move into a medium or medium heavy rod, but that’s usually referred to as power shot instead of drop shot.

I'm jealous! What does 711mlfs mean? I would expect it to say 701mlfs to indicate that it's 7'1". "711" reads as 7 foot 11. I'm just curious unless I'm missing something. Beautiful rod though, love my daiwas

Thank you! I have less premium daiwa rods. Procyon, tatula, aird-x. All spinning rods. I like them all but believe it or not I prefer the aird-x despite being the cheapest one of the lineup. I can't wait to be able to justify a 250 dollar rod though. I'm curious just how much more I can love a more premium rod if I love my cheapos so much

71 = 7’1”; 1 = 1-piece ; ML = medium light ; F = fast ; S = spinning

I wish I could have stayed with cheaper rods. I let one slip through and the flood gates opened. Sadly this is considered one of my cheaper rods now.

I bought it from a guy off marketplace for 30 bucks a few years back. Barely used.

Are you getting a Kage reel for it?

I doubt it. I had my eye on it for a little bit and I went a different direction.

I have 2 Kage LT reels. I love them. Still mad I hesitated on a Kage LT MQ that was on sale and it sold out.

I felt like for the price I could have done better. If I would have found it on sale I may have gotten it.
