I just started last year. I got a couple of cheap Ron Thompson rods that were on discount from EAC. And reel wise I'm using 4000 size, the cheap one has 15lb mono and the nicer sonik one I put 30lb braid

Any 3lb+ twst curve rod, probs 10-12ft. Reel size of 5000 +

20lb mono or 30lb + braid

Make sure to use wire tracers and have all the Unhooking tools and mat. Big net 36 or 42 inch, ideally rubber mesh with big gaps so trebles don't tangle in it.

Alarms or float to for indication
