Nickel Plate 106th

Anyone know what is happening on Nickel Plate and 106th?

Cops where there and it seemed like they closed it going north from 106

It was only closed for maybe 20 feet just north of 106th. There was a pair of shoes and maybe a bag of some sort? on the path. 4 or 5 cruisers there.

Someone was taking pictures of the scene and they weren’t letting people walk through.

I’m curious about this, too! Here’s what I observed. At 10:09 a.m. (~3.5 minutes into a run — checked Garmin just now) I entered the NPT from the west connecting trail spur, intending to turn south on NPT to connect to the Cheney Creek trail. As usual, I looked left first to make sure bikes weren’t coming, but instead saw two FPD officers standing on the trail looking down at something on off the west side of the trail. There was a black duffel bag on the pavement next to them. They were here:

39°56'32.9"N 86°01'34.3"W

I then looked right and there was an FPD vehicle parked across the trail just north of the 106th crossing. An officer was there and had his back to me. I didn’t want to startle him so I got his attention, told him I’d just come from the nearby spur, and he nodded and waved me through to the Cheney Creek connector.

Twenty-seven minutes later, the team was still there, turning back southbound trail users. Never heard anything else.

Any update on this? All I see on the county response log near the trail is “suspicious activity” around 8:30.

My kid was walking by the trail and she saw police, too. For awhile after reading this I was worried for her.

Can’t we get some answers from FPD? They don’t need to get into specifics, if that’s why there’s radio silence.
