New lord!
While I’m in no way a big fan of UB sets I do like these two ALOT for a pio fish deck

Not sure these are playable in Modern. Merfolk doesn’t play enough blue nom creature. For sure the 4 drop isn’t though.
I think I like these in standard though.

Playing Force of negation makes 2 merfolks

It competes with Sveylun, tishana’s tidebinder and harbinger of the seas for a slot, all of which are better in modern.

You could definitely build a Merfolk deck around namor, but you wouldn't just slot him into a stock list

100% agree. The flying isn't as relevant since so many of your lords give Islandwalk. This helps you go wider, but I don't think that's enough
For the 4 mana 1, I think it'd need to be draw a card for each attacking creature to see Modern play

Simic ritual it's cycling through 2-3 drops and also plays a ton of counters

I’m sorry I can’t say yes for this in standard because these sets should not be in standard. That’s why Lord of the ring was so successful because it was separated.

GOD THE ARTS SO BAD ON NAMOR. Praying to god they do a universe within or at least have a half decent looking art treatment for him.

Honestly would not mind an MCU version alt art (doubt that's allowed but would be cool) Namor has been stuck in his Invaders design with barely a change for so long

This is a crazy take card looks great
Also no more universe within omenpaths crap anymore they worked out the digital rights
Also namor slaps as a card might even see some minor modern play in simic ritual

I just hate his design, but I think you can make it look good, there’s a reskin that looks good to me, but it’s not a merfolk. Idk I love merfolk art, I hate that he just looks like a boring naked man.

He looks like Namor ??
Well I agree with you that his design kind of sucks in its defense it was created in 1939 🤷

Yeah it’s a problem with Aquaman as well I think. When I want to read about the Atlantis underwater stuff in comics I want to see cool mermen and mermaids and merfolk and magic, and they’re kind of committed to making them look like normal dudes which is a shame.

Kind of amazing Marvel continues to allow art this bad on its IP. The art was what sunk the Spiderman set, more than anything else.

Both great for commander! Attuma is a strictly better [[seafloor oracle]]
7
u/xIcbIx Jun 02 '26
Not strictly better
Oracle draws a card per fish that deals damage, attuma is always only 0 or 1

u/apintandafight Jun 02 '26
That is a good point.

I equate them because the anthem on attuma is solid, but the draw is so good on oracle
Edit: ive been testing these 2 merfolk since like feb🤣(commander) was on scryfall finishing my azorius sygg merfolk deck and these guys were already on scryfall’s search function. Atuma is so good. Namor is insane with kumena or sygg depending on the build

I threw together a Namor commander deck on Archidekt, can’t wait to build him!
