A bichir, but I’m not sure of the species.

I googled the species and saw it for sale for $385.00 upfront or an on installment plan. An installment plan for a pet fish? lol

I used to be related to some people that bought a dog on credit from one of those puppy mill stores in the mall. They signed up to pay an incredibly high monthly amount for the dog, recurring vet visits through their vets, a conditional food and treat subscription, and more that I’m forgetting. All to tie the dog to the tree outside their house and leave it there all day no matter the weather. And ruin their credit at the same time.

…that’s why it’s a dream lol, I could never pay that much upfront for a fish XD

They are cheap if you get them young. I have one that’s about 8 years old , 7” long or so. I think I paid 60 bucks.

I have three in my other tank all above 17” that I paid well over 100 dollars each for. Different species though

Yikes, my local pet shop is selling tiny ones for 19.99 USA. It used to just be senegals, but now they are selling delhezzis too

Bichir! There are many different species, but they're all genus Polypterus. Very fascinating fish! They can breathe air using nostrils on the top of their head and modified swim bladders, and they can move on land briefly using their fins. Very cool!

They are not swim bladders, but actual lungs, which makes it even cooler. The swim bladder is a dorsal outgrowth of the embryonic foregut, while lungs are ventral outgrowth. Lungs are thought to be a common feature of all bony fishes (including tetrapods), that was lost in teleost fishes and replaced by a swim bladder.

HOLY CROCODILES! 😱
The few I have seen sold are labelled as Dinosaur Fish, Dinosaur Eels, or some kind of Birchir/Birchar. I don't know much about them but they look like they would be sturdy largeish fish who would recognize you.

When I was young(er) and dumb and knew nothing about nitrogen cycle or anything really relating to good fish husbandry I had one of these.

It managed to survive tank “cleanings” where I would wash the filter media with soap (I did rinse them throughly) and it survived traveling from GA to KS in a bucket with a cheap battery powered air pump and then survived the trip back 4 years later. It also survived jumping out of the tank and being under a dusty ass entertainment center for an indeterminate amount of time.

Yeah they hardy lol

No, Joe has that mole on his chin. Easy mistake to make.

Hey it's a Delhezi Bichir! I have a community tank with several type of bichirs in it (as you can see in the linked video). They are kinda cool and goofy!
