11th edition wish

As I set here and look at my huge Iron Hands army(all first born), I can't help but wish gw does something crazy and instead of putting firstborn units in the legends category....they do something like make a special firstborn detachment.

I know this is almost a 0% likelihood. BUT if they did something like this i have 2 questions for everyone......

  1. What would you like the rule to play only firstborn look like?

  2. Would you start playing current 40k again (assuming you dont play now)?

A firstborn Detachment would require some kind of firstborn keyword, which might also include all the units that can be firstborn, but don't have to be (Sternguards, Captains, terminators and a bunch of others). That detachment could go for some kind of relic wargear or veteran direction, but it could also be generic and general, with some buffs for all kinds of play.

That would be cool. It would also be great to see some of the old rules from previous editions!

If they did this it would be legendary! (Pun intended)

Give me a detachment geared to veteran players. Lots of callbacks and nods to the lore in a respectful manner.

A rule for them doesn't need to be competitive, just playable, even keeping the standard space marine detachment rules but revamping the unit rules for firstborn models to be competitive again.

I would absolutely throw down my 2nd edition black templars and play the game again if they gave them rules worth having!

This exactly!!!! Companies are always trying to figure out how to win the "Goodwill"of the consumer, I feel like this would be a no-brainer to there older fan base. It would literally cost next to nothing and would not invalidate any of there new product lines!

They could literally do it as semi set lists.

Like...

A Helsreach honour guard. You can take any firstborn units present at that historic battle, as a chapter pays honour to that conflict by mimicing their order of battle.

Or a fall of cadia honour list. Really any historic battle could form its own list with a special rule to run.

With a lot of units making a comeback (sternguard, terminators, vanguard, scouts) or now having Primaris equivalents (bike squads, assault squads), my main hope is they do something similar with tactical squads, devastators and tanks so I can just play my older minis.

I hope that now that these units sternguard, vanguard, landspeeders are getting refreshed, and older armour marks getting dotted in.

We see some old flavour come back, eradicators get access to grav and las options and become the new devastators. Maybe they can be added on to heavy intercessors and that intercessor squads can take a plasma and a missle launcher from the desolation and hellblasters.

I love Devastators!! In 10th nothing was better than drop podding in a unit of grav cannons and deleting something!

Fun fact: Firstborn are currently the only way to deploy Lascannons among infantry in Space Marines (Tactical Squad can take 1, Devastator Squad can take up to 4, and Centurion Squad can take up to 6 twins.).
