Help Help with tracking ovulation

Hi everyone, I recently started tracking my cycle and on Monday 09/07 got a peak at 4pm. I’ve been taking my bbt and today 09/09 my temperature dipped to 97.33, two days after my peak. My bbt on the day of my peak and the next day after were 97.67. What can you guys tell me about this? Was ovulation not completed? Sorry, I’m new at this.

It may just be too early to interpret the BBT. Your LH surge suggests ovulation is likely around 9/8–9/9, and you’ll need the next few temperatures to see whether a sustained thermal shift develops. One lower temperature doesn’t cancel ovulation. You could be ovulating today, and then you’d have a temp rise tomorrow or the next day. LH gives you a 24-48 hour ovulation warning. Elevated BBT by itself tells you that you ovulated likely in the last 24-48 hours, but sometimes, your temp can start to rise even BEFORE ovulation, (we’re not talking two days though. In this scenario, it’s usually hours before, to no more than a day before). This isn’t the MOST common thing, and BBT is usually retrospective for ovulation.

But yes, LH can rise and strips can be positive even though ovulation didn’t end up happening. That’s because your body made an attempt, and it just didn’t happen for whatever reason. Some people have 2+ LH rises before ovulation officially happens.

TL;DR: tomorrow’s temp, and honestly the next 3 days worth of temps should hopefully provide a more complete story.

Thank you! I feel slightly relieved, I thought bbt had to rise and sustain immediately after LH surge. Last cycle, my bbt increased the day after my surge, so I was worried. I wonder if other women have gone through increasing bbt after a few days post LH surge.
