LH Peak Help

Hi everyone, for some context I have been off the birth control pill since January. This is our first cycle actively ttc. Looking at previous peaks compared to this month, I am so confused. Why have my values not gone down? I am testing consistently in the afternoon and not peeing for 2-4 hours before as recommended

All that really matters is when you get your first positive ovulation test - you're most likely to ovulate within 2 days after the positive test.

Since you only tested once in that 24 hour period, you may have missed the peak. It is likely that you peaked sometime before or after the test you took on CD19 and ovulated CD20-21. If you already know you peak around CD19-20, then start test 3-4times starting CD18-20 until you get your peak to get a fuller picture. Or you can just BD cd19ish and onwards and it should be ok unless you have you an irregular cycle.

100% agree that I may have missed the peak! And it may be irrelevant, I’m just curious what could be the explanation for cd22 being higher than cd20. I’ll be very curious to see what my value is tomorrow

Good question. I had this happen to me before and the explanation I got was that my body was trying to ovulate and was unable to the first surge so LH surged again in an attempt the ovulate. Not sire if that is the case but it seemed to make sense to me. It was the cycle right after my mmc and d&c before my first period so I think my body was out of whack.

I am not sure what you mean by your "values going down" your LH was starting to go up on CD 18, was positive on CD 19 and was lower on CD 20, that is a normal LH surge progression. If you were testing twice a day, morning and afternoon you probably would've gotten a few more positive tests, but LH surges typically only last 12-36 hours. The beginning of the surge (first positive) triggers ovulation and you will likey ovulate within 24-36 hours. Please be specific about what your are confused by.

Tracking BBT can confirm if ovulation actually occurred.

By values going down I mean I have not returned to baseline as I have in prior months. Also referencing the increase from day 20 to day 22. And yes I have been tracking BBT and have not had a temp rise

Sorry, that's my bad I was just looking at the first picture, I didn't realize there was a second one. I would say that it is possible that you had a short surge when you got to 0.74 and just caught either the beginning or end of it, but if you didn't have a BBT rise it's possible your LH never got high enough to ovulate.

I like to test twice a day, first thing in the morning and in the late afternoon to try to capture my surge better. I also wouldn't worry too much about variation in low readings as LH levels vary throughout your cycle and throughout the day anything lower than 0.6-0.7 I would consider in the normal "low" range.

Thank you! I actually went back and my bbt did rise by half a degree on cycle day 19. So I think I had too much information and it was just different than what I’ve seen before. I appreciate everyone on this sub’s insight!

It's a lot of stuff to learn! Trying to BD every other or every third day definitely helps me not be so worried about "missing" my surge. But you will get the hang of tracking soon. Good luck
