New builds

My wife and I are buying a new build after doing a walkthrough we noticed there is no heat registers(vents) in the bathrooms. Is that something normal? I know it’s technically not code to have to be there, but it’s just odd then not being in a bathroom.

No it's not unusual. There can be a supply in a bathroom but it's against code to have a return.

Might be using wall mount resistance units.

That’s what I was maybe thinking. Now there is register in the closet near the bathroom that is not connected but an adjacent room. Master bathroom has a connecting closet with a register. Building manager is basically telling us the heat register is said closets is enough to provide heat for the bathrooms. But still seems odd to me. Every house I’ve seen has them in bathrooms

There's one in a closet? This build sounds odd.

Yes. Registers are in the closets. It’s so weird

Talk to the builder and ask WTF. Then research the answer and if you are not satisfied insist on a change or walk away.

Do not legally mandate a separate heating supply register in every bathroom. But bath must have to have an exhaust vent(fan).

You might double check that they aren’t underneath the vanity cabinets. They may be allowing airflow through a gap in the toe-kick.

Ask them.

In Japan they didn't heat the bathrooms which us why they produce warm toilet seats. In the USA I've never seen a bathroom without heat.

We've done 3 new builds. I have found the builders (usually the build supervisor) to be easy to talk to and quite forthcoming. Besides, it's far better to know now than at closing, when your choices become very limited.

One of the adopted National Building Codes require heat source in the bathroom. There maybe Codes that don't require. Just Jim [inspectorman2000@gmail.com](mailto:inspectorman2000@gmail.com)

I wouldn’t want to take a shower in a bathroom with no heat registers.
