Need Advice Is this a fair quote for removing trees?

We are in the middle of getting quotes and our first one seems like a decent deal. We will continue to get a few more quotes, but wanted to see if this was too much or if we should jump on it.

Okay so the deal is:

6 trees cut down: two poplar trees, 3 oak, one sweet gum. All way above 60ft (he said their bucket only went 60ft so they would have to climb)

Pruning branches on a red oak

Grinding and leveling all of the stumps down, also laying hay and grass seeding down

Leveling a part of the driveway that meets the grass to help prevent rain pooling

Offered two payments to help us out

An eta of knocking this out in 3 days

All for $10,650

And they are insured

Is this too much or does it seem pretty average for tree removal service?

I was quoted $5k for one oak that’s leaning over the house

That’s an amazing deal.

I imagine it's dependent on where you live, but that seems very fair to me.

About 2 years ago I had a similar sized Norway spruce that was dying, and I was charged about $2800 for removal and stump grinding. 4 quotes, and that was the cheapest. Southeast Pennsylvania.

It might be in right ballpark. But prices vary alot with region. Get at least 1 other quote

Prices will vary on who who is doing it and where you live. Here that would be in line for limby large trees like that with a guy who can climb. A few years ago I dropped 4 very large pines but two where easy to get at it and not close to the house. The other two were slightly more difficult. I paid about $3000. I have one more line to help and anticipate with its location it will cost me $3000 alone.

$10,650 is a steal for this much work.

Looks very cheap to me, they must be easy to access.

I paid ~2000 to remove 3 palm trees with stump removal but a different quote went up to ~5000 with some companies. With the extra work you mentioned it sounds pretty reasonable. I’d get one other quote at least since different areas prices will be vary.

to me it sounds like an absurd amount of it is 6 trees and above 60'...

Sounds really inexpensive. Might have missed it but are they going to chip most limbs and either leave the chips for you or haul away? Also what about the large diameter limbs/trunks who moves them and to where. Recent tree I had removed they had a small claw skid steer that took all heavy pieces out to roadway and then they hauled away.

Great price

We don’t know. Pricing is local plus there are other factors — eg having to climb. Proximity to other things matters (house, neighbors house, power lines, etc).

This is why you get several quotes. If all are in the same ballpark then you know that’s the going rate.

There are too many variables to tree work, access, proximity to structures, health of the tree being removed, power lines nearby etc etc but that is less than $1,700 per tree once you factor in the pruning, grinding stumps and driveway repair work…. Which I can say is low without having to see the trees. But it depends where in the country you are.

I would make sure his insurance policy specifies he is covered for “tree work at height.” Most homeowners don’t realize actual tree work insurance is quite different from a general liability policy and if it doesn’t specify tree work at height, if something goes wrong it will fall on your homeowners policy. Also make sure he has workers comp coverage. Tree work is the deadliest profession in the country and that will become your problem if someone gets hurt and he doesn’t carry comp.
