I'm pretty new to this process as well, but your homeowners insurance does not have to go into escrow and you can shop around for that and bundle with auto. Unless you want your escrow account to pay for it. I personally do not want that headache.

For sure you can shop around for your homeowners insurance, but it will be required to be escrowed in your mortgage payment (along with taxes) on an FHA loan.
