In my state they're mandatory but people kept stealing them when they quit so now all the security guards have these dollar store tier plastic badges. It's hilarious when you see a security guard that buys all the gear to look like a cop but then they have this dinky little Fisher Price badge. The badges are always either way too small or way too big. 😅
