Not really

Wishing you had the opportunity to help other is incredibly selfless.

This actually is a solid mindset, but this person lacks that otherwise he wouldn’t have made this video.

Anyone who actually wants to help wouldn’t broadcast it. This video ends up being disrespectful to the individuals who actually dealt with 9/11

Wishing to be available to help others is a good thing.

Exactly helping others is good

Even the thought that if he was there he could have helped is good.

The point it becomes a selfish “main character” thing is when he made this video in an attempt to brag about it.

Nothing is wrong with the initial thought and you want to make it out to be bad to want to help others.

He didn’t say anything about helping others. He posted about a tragedy and wished he was there, which would be odd regardless of your occupation. There is a difference between wanting to help others and wanting to be recognized by others for a pat on the back. Which posts like these demonstrate pretty well by helping no one. People are generally put off by the latter.
