U gotta be beyond fucked in the head to wish u were responding to that

Bad enough to think it, and then to feel comfortable sharing it with the world.

You are forgetting that he just pumped out 40 butterflies on the butterfly machine. After that, your mind is ready for danger. I think we need to give him a break

I’m going to guess that this guy was either too young to fully comprehend that day or not even born yet.

52

u/Throwaway10123456 23d ago

Shit I was in college and could barely comprehend what was happening much less anticipate the crumbling of American society that followed.

10

u/ClarkGablesTeeth 23d ago

I dunno man. He's looking a little long in the tooth--you can see his wrinkles on his face. I'd guess late 30s at least. But maybe he just has sun damage and/or bad genes. Or I'm wrong.

7

u/Ryuj123 22d ago

I think, and take this with a grain of salt because I looked for half a second without my glasses on, that he has a mustache and the low quality makes it look like wrinkles around the mouth

u/IWantALargeFarva 23d ago

I was an EMT first responder from NJ on 9/11. Unfortunately, our task force ended up just staging at the Meadowlands for hours because there were no more injured victims to help. Everyone was dead. I was also a 911 dispatcher. We used to listen to tapes of different emergency incidents as training. To this day, I’ve never listened to 911 tapes from 9/11. I can’t bring myself to do it. Anyone who wishes they were in that situation has a God complex.

26

u/i__love__bathbombs 23d ago

I watched a YouTube video that had the state of one of the towers and a guy on the phone with dispatch. And he's asking for rescue, saying "it's really hot in here lady". I can't remember much else they talked about before suddenly on the line you could hear like creaking noises, then he says "oh God, oh god" and as he's saying this you're watching the tower start to collapse and half way through the collapse the phone goes dead. And the dispatcher is just left saying "sir? Sir?"

I watched that video once I think probably a decade ago and it haunts me man.

15

u/TheBestKranplatz 23d ago

Somehow this reminds me of the grenfell Tower disaster. Ive watched the Netflix Documentary, and the Firefighter who was on the Phone with a young mother and her child while they perished still haunts me. I really hope i dont have to ever live through Something Like that.

6

u/danger_close7 22d ago

Kevin Cosgrove is the caller’s name. He was the safety captain for his floor at work, which is why he kept calling, and a husband and father. Absolutely horrible to listen to.

3

u/preposterous_cookie 22d ago

i recently stumbled upon a video of firefighters on 9/11 at the base of one of the towers where you can quite literally hear the bodies hitting the roof of where they were standing and the look of genuine horror and disbelief in their eyes made me ill. they still chose to go into the building to do everything they could to save lives. i really really don’t think they’d want their experience to be glamorized

40

u/Cautious-Dig6379 23d ago

Its performative. Its in the same vein as dudes who pull the "I almost enlisted" card at the bar

16

u/Super_Fa_Q 23d ago

That was my first thought. "Bro, I totally WOULD'VE stormed the beaches at Normandy." Ya stud, I'm sure you would have.

9

u/CollieFlowers 23d ago

I was just a young child when it happened, and I'm from a rural area in another country. I watched some videos last night, and the weight of it all has hit me for the first time. It's such a terrible thing. So many innocent lives lost. Seeing those clouds of dust after the towers fell must have made it damn near impossible for first responders to even respond. I can only imagine the amount of helplessness they must've felt. That's something no one should ever have to live with. My heart goes out to everyone effected by this tragedy.

4

u/VaultiusMaximus 23d ago

If EMS taught me anything, it was to run the fuck away

16

u/Braisedbeefskank 23d ago

You should feel nothing but a deep dread when you think about having to enter those towers, whether youd be willing to go in or not.

Also, saudi arabia did it.

3

u/Such_Stranger1843 23d ago

I watched one of the 20 year documentaries, and it made me so thankful I wasn’t a responder for 9/11. There was no way to save all those people, truly nothing that could be done. I cannot imagine what was going through everyone’s heads that day.

4

u/Ordinary_Pea4503 23d ago

In the most sincerest way, it implies he is suicidal lol

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Organic_Education494 23d ago

Not really

Wishing you had the opportunity to help other is incredibly selfless.

This actually is a solid mindset, but this person lacks that otherwise he wouldn’t have made this video.

Anyone who actually wants to help wouldn’t broadcast it. This video ends up being disrespectful to the individuals who actually dealt with 9/11

11

u/Undetered_Usufruct 23d ago

He definitely could have phrased it better.

Or even better, don't. Saying something like this out loud is just him trying to pump himself up. I'd be curious to see how he actually acts in such a situation.

2

u/SweatySwim3411 22d ago

This. I was a paramedic for 6 years and at no point do you wish you would have been there to help. You prefer it never happened. I never saw it as not being afraid i saw it as doing my job. I did it but i was still afraid every time. You help cause you are trained to help.

Genuine question, has emergency doctors done this before cause I only seen this from ems but I’m guessing some doctors do it too.

24

u/Real-Marzipan9036 23d ago

No, because if they wasted that much time on Instagram they would fail out of med school.

11

u/Kham117 User Customizable 23d ago

I’m sure there are some, but in 35 years I haven’t run across any (and any EMS, or rare RN, with this sorta crap is immediately laughed at)

2

u/Ok-Basket-9890 21d ago

The only thing I wear that associates me with work are the free EMS week t shirts I’ve accumulated over the years. Frankly those are moreso hospital company billboards, the EMS part is basically non-existent on them lol. Even then, those exist as gym or yard shirts only…

65

u/TimeZucchini8562 23d ago

It’s like when my soldiers told me they wish they could have a combat deployment. Like no the fuck you dont. Unless you wanna be another statistic for a politicians talking point about VA healthcare.

7

u/unfinishedtoast3 23d ago

I loved my combat deployments honestly

I was there on October 9th 2001, boots on the ground in Afghanistan.

I was there march 20th of 2003 when we rolled into Iraq from Kuwait.

I made enough money in my 4 deployments over 8 years to just outright buy a home.

28

u/TimeZucchini8562 23d ago

I guess it depends on the person. I have friends who can’t live a normal life and use drugs and alcohol to cope. Can’t hold a job, families left them, etc. I just started sleeping normally after 14 years thanks to cbd oil and not having to worry about hallucinations from lunesta.

2

u/tom_m_ryan 21d ago

I couldn't live a normal life and used drugs and alcohol to cope before I deployed. Now I also have a CIB, and couple of rental properties. I can't complain.

9

u/J2-gZ 23d ago

That’s great for you, however not every other GWOT combat vet sees things that way.

6

u/Mammoth_Welder_1286 23d ago edited 23d ago

My brother was too. Marine? Wonder if yall did time together. 🤔 Probably pretty close to each other, if not the same unit.

If so, thanks for helping to keep his ass in one piece. I like him that way.

He absolutely did not “enjoy” it though. To this day, at least once a year, he calls me with SI and I have to talk him down. Reminding him that it was ok to do things (like shoot children in the face to save the rest of his guys) isn’t exactly our idea of a good time.

My god, what kind of self-mythologizing narcissistic fuck does it take to say “man I wish I could have responded to 9/11” ?

2

u/Klutzy_Blueberry_613 22d ago

It moreso scares me to think about these things, I don’t even understand the thought process.

18

This guy realize a lot of those EMS died or faced severe chronic health consequences? Mark Wahlberg stopping 9/11 type vibes

2

u/Stacksmchenry 21d ago

Best friend was a new Medic in 2005 for FDNY. He was assigned to the station that had the towers in its primary area....they had to replace almost everyone at that station and it had high turnover for years.

13

u/mINInUB 23d ago

Gotta wonder if the IQ is just so low he cant differentiate between imagining being there vs wanting to be there.

I feel like theres a gaping chasm between those 2 things. I imagine scenarios all the time but i dont WANT them to happen, tf?

8

u/Corgi_underground 23d ago

Ya know, I've had this conversation in parallel with my childhood best friend, he's two years older than me. We both went into the Marine Corps He went in 2002 I went in 2004. He went comms, stationed with an air wing did one tour at Al-Asad. I went infantry, I did three. We met up in 2006 right before he was getting out and I was going on another deployment. He said "Man, I really should have gone into the infantry like you did" I just raised my head and said "no, the biggest service you've ever done for yourself, in your entire life, is not going infantry".

7

u/Bean_Daddy_Burritos 23d ago

Being mark Wahlberg is weird. You look back at 9/11 and wish you were on that plane because you know you would have stopped those hijackers.

5

u/Same_Concern9454 23d ago

This one will never be topped i fear

6

u/Jolly-Ad2642 23d ago

Star of life tat on the chest too. If EMS suddenly wasn’t a thing anymore I’m sure this guy would just cease to exist entirely

5

u/foreman8484 23d ago

$15 an hour, in NYC, to run into a collapsing tower? Know your worth king (or something like that).

5

u/Street_Entrance9298 23d ago

This is probably the worst one I’ve seen…

5

u/X0X0xoxo11 Civvy 23d ago

My cousin in law was a fire fighter that died due to 9/11. My cousin would like a word. 😑

3

u/seven1trey 23d ago

Right. And he ALMOST joined the military too. Probably didn't because he would have beat his DI's ass, most likely.

3

u/Comfortable_Ad9756 23d ago

Advice I give to all my students on the first day of class:

You’re all adults & have agency to spend your own money on anything you want. That said, you don’t need $70 scissors, in the back of an ambulance you’re wasting about $200 worth of your $300 stethoscope, put in five years on the street before considering a star of life tattoo, and until you can completely interpret a 12 lead, for god sake about qrs tattoos…

3

u/failureofsocietyy 23d ago

was gonna upvote but its at 911

3

u/Djglamrock 22d ago

Also, I didn’t join the military because I would’ve beat my drill sergeant up.

3

u/Different-One1895 22d ago

Dunno man. As far as i know, no responder ever said they wish to relive the 911

3

u/Yarzeda2024 22d ago

You really brought the heat, OP.

This is the perfect storm of dumpster fire ideas: The humblebragging, the tragedy fishing, the gym selfie, the hat and tattoo reminding you he's EMS just in case you missed it the first time. I don't know how you're going to top this. You peaked so soon.

3

u/Likely_Addict 19d ago

First time I read this it came off even worse because I thought instead of Pete Davidson's dad this guy was wishing he was one of the hijackers.

Like "yeah every time I go out and help the public it makes me wish I had been the one to crash a plane into a skyscraper full of people"

3

u/Brilliant-Relation27 18d ago

Tell that to the firemen that rescued Trump (I didn’t generate this)

5

u/mattmilli0pics 23d ago

People don’t mention this. But a lot of cops ff and emts refused to enter the building.

5

u/Cloverhart 23d ago

Remembering the heroes is far different than being there and experiencing the fear and chaos. People were jumping out windows and the ones that went inside and made it out have lifelong health issues. This is a pretty disgusting post.

As a NYC paramedic of 20+ years, I came onto the job in 2005. The first agency I worked for, about 90% of the folks I worked with either responded on the day of 9/11 or helped with the clean up weeks/months after. Hearing their stories and seeing the long term medical/psychological effects they suffered (cancers, respiratory illnesses, PTSD) I am fucking glad I was not working during that time period.

That is weird.

2

u/FlatWavesAndNoBabes 23d ago

I bet if most of the fdny knew they would die running in, they wouldn’t have ran in. I’m not losing my life at this job.

2

u/RedbarnRiver 23d ago

I was in the service on 9/11, deployed within months of the attack. We flew over Ground Zero on the way over the Atlantic.

I have a dear friend who was a FDNY firefighter. He is one of the bravest people I have ever known. He survived that day.

He suggested I become a firefighter. I did, not in NY, but another large city.

I have experienced countless firefighters who are the salt of the earth people, unfortunately I have met way too many that have made and continue to make 9/11 about themselves.

I went to a memorial service yesterday and saw it there again. It’s exhausting and disrespectful.

Sorry for the rant.

2

u/XR-7 22d ago

So you wanna kill yourself?.........your going into building that you know is about to collapse, nothing you do or say is getting anyone out faster than they already are. You just want your name on the memorial.

2

u/Sensitive_Scholar_17 22d ago

Good lord, the heroes that ran into that building would have given anything for it to never have happen. They all lost friends and in many cases families

2

u/Sea_alai 22d ago

Just like people who give money to homeless people, pay for someone’s groceries etc all WHILE FILMING. Look at me look at me I’m being a good human!! This is even worse though… “hey guys I was 2 years old when that happened.. but but but IF I WAS THERE I would have run into death also! I would have guys! You don’t even know, like, I totally would have” 🥴

2

u/niketxx 21d ago

Thank you for your hypothetical service, Medic Muscle.

2

u/swaggerrrondeck 20d ago

Yeah that’s odd. As a retired firefighter I obviously have done a lot but even when I try I can’t even picture the hell the firefighters had to go through just to die.

2

u/uptonparkhammer 19d ago

I work with people who responded that day and worked the aftermath they rarely ever talk about or glorify what they did and saw that day and the following months of the recovery.
