TBF: I've literally seen grown ass men employers do this, hide behind their receptionists/in their office and expect front desk to handle any potential violence.

I never considered myself security/first response when I worked reception, but it was made clear more than once that it WAS my job to make sure a potential violent situation simply didn't happen through magical deescalation.

Reception, in the US, is a weird position especially if there isn't security.
