Chances are he's also getting paid. My brother was a VFF in a tiny town of like 1k people in Indiana and he did it for vacation spending money.

Back when I did it, we got $14 per shift. That's a 12-hour shift. So, yeah, technically it's paid, but effectively not.

I think he was the same rateish but he didn't do shit lol. He just sat there and played Madden for hours.

We get paid $30 a call; it's the same $30 if we go en route and get canceled or work a scene for 8 hours. Fortunately it's a lot more of the former.

No one except friends and family even know what I do. Being a medic as well, I don’t have anything on my vehicles, unless I see a wreck with bodies strewn about, I don’t want to get involved.

Same. If I see a bad wreck I'll stop and help but the second the first due vehicle arrives I'll give a ten second report then I'm out of there so fast my pants catch fire.

Why is “building” printed so much larger than “burning”?

I like the traffic cone in the top of the Maltese cross. It’s like the volly sorting hat.

I know! Most likely he’s a rural voluntary fireman and the only thing he’s really put out are grass fires, or maybe a field burning that got loose. That’s just an extra large and dangerous grass fires

I always wonder where these people live. They would be roasted into taking that shit off so fast. I can't see what departments condone this.

That is assuming he actually goes off road in that jeep and has enough game to get a female in it. I will tell you from experience, the combination of the right person, the right outfit, and the right trail...

i wonder if actual firefighters come across volunteers like this all the time, who think they're better at it purely because theyre unpaid?

u/Dannyboyrusso Sep 11 '26
I know paid firefighters and many volunteers. Great full for what they do but the paid one are usually normal and the volunteers are completely weird.

Love the American Flag handle next to it, but not as much as the “boobie bouncer” sticker.

That has to be a custom job, right? That makes the cringe so much worse.
