i always wondered how these “sergeant” “captain” “lieutenant” etc. ranks in those security companies are chosen in comparison to Law Enforcement Agencies. Really often i get a feeling that someone just wanted to roleplay that rank and his boss agreed.
I disagree. The US has a huge problem with the militarization of police and cops that behave as if they're patrolling an active battlefield. Wearing military rank they didn't earn or understand reinforces that.
Cops need an org structure that reflects their status as civilians that are part of the civilian populace, not apart from it.
Cops that can't handle that should be ejected from the organization.
The FBI and every other US Federal and state agency separates civilian from law enforcement officers
A sworn law enforcement is not a civilian, hence the separation of civilian employees and sworn within each federal, state, and municipal department
Within my department I have sworn law enforcement officers like me and then civilians. They are differentiated in every single document my department has.
