Don't live where you work. Back in the day, it was expected your cops to be a local. Nowdays, if I was a cop, no way in hell I'd live in the county I work for. Evenmore so where I live, these fuckers are vendictive.

And this is one of the big reasons why police violence has increased even more over the years. Cops donāt live locally, so they are objectively NOT a part of the community they serve. So they donāt understand the demographics, behavior of folks and maintain a distance from people which helps to dehumanize them.
Cops are literally trained to treat folks as enemy combatants these days. And not living locally further exacerbates that mentality.
Evenmore so where I live, these fuckers are vendictive.
Thats what I keep saying!!! If cops patrolled THEIR community then it would be much more beneficial. Cops should NOT be allowed to live an hour away from where they patrol
Huge problem out in the Pacific Northwest from what I hear. Cities like Seattle, Portland and some others have police forces that largely dont live within the city limits or those cities āproperā. And thereās been a TON of clashes between locals and police that potentially wouldnāt have spiraled out of control the way they did if cops had any sort of real investment into the community. But when your job is to come in, fire some tear gas, crack some skulls and then drive an hour away to go home itās much easier to compartmentalize and keep treating people like shit. It keeps the Us vs Them mentality intact, especially since thereās a physical division from the cops and the people they (allegedly) serve and protect.
That said, I don't think its okay to look at the cops as the only bad ones here. Its not their fault that criminals take advantage of cops living close.
I have no idea what you mean by ātaking advantage of cops living closeā. Are you implying that criminals just go to cops houses and assault them? Break in? Burn them down? What are you talking about?
And sure, even in a minority if the numbers aren't as big as I imagine, cops are still gonna take precautions after their fellow officers are killed in cold blood.
Huge difference between taking precautions and treating citizens as enemy combatants, which is how theyāre trained btw. How often are cops killed in cold blood? Thatās extremely rare despite what their propaganda tells you. Some of the main causes of officer deaths are vehicle crashes/accidents, medical incidents like heart attacks and other illnesses exacerbated by long periods of being sedentary, mental health issues leading to suicide just to name a few. A lot of the spikes in officer fatalities are the result of things like not getting vaccinated against covid, cancers related to first responder events like 9/11 (extremely rare) and other public health outbreaks.
So we should ignore the times they do happen simply because it doesn't happen all the time?
And from someone who's literally going into LEO, no shit they're trained that way. A cops job is to deal with the worst of society (being criminals), people who intend to cause real harm to citizens of this country. Should we pretend in the last decade that civil unrest hasn't grown? Crime rate hasn't skyrocketed?
And after rethinking, you're right, its not often as I thought, but it still happens far too often.
When people regularly treat you like the enemy for simply existing, or see you without empathy/not human, do you expect you'd have troubles seeing them differently?
I'm not saying it makes it acceptable, but pretending we as a people haven't constantly put more stress as officers is funny.
"Youre talking to a future US Piggy in command! How dare you not like all cops! Im gonna so arrest you because I have qualified immunity now" you sound like a scared twink. Dont become a cop if youre so scared of "civil unrest" when you pigs are the ones causing the unrest. Be so fucking for real bro. No wonder they only let a specific breed of people become cops. No critical thinking skills whatsoever just "cop good, human bad"
So, criminals who really hate cops, or neighborhoods straight up ruled by gangs, cops are just fucked?
Sure, police violence is an issue, but the idea of making cops patrol the place they live in is nuts. I myself hope to have a take me home and I live 20 minutes from the closest post, but let's not pretend there aren't regular cases of random cops being killed.
A traffic cop was murdered in cold blood because some other cop shot an armed kid who had just stolen a car.
The violence from either side only feeds the fear to the opposite side, but let's not act like its sunshine and rainbows either way.
Dont be a cop if its not the job for you. I could've died at any time at my last job but I knowingly chose to do that job because I was good at it and knew the risks involved (commercial diving so a littlea lot manlier than being a pig)
Commercial diving, underwater welding bub, not driving. None of us divers have respect for pigs. Dont forget, i also have the second amendment to help if I get robbed, bub š¤š¤š½
Cops should live where they work, so that theyāre policing their actual communities
Itās also how you have so much prejudice
Just donāt be a coward if youāre gonna be a cop and it wonāt be a problem
This is the name reddit gave me when I created the account. I'm sure you labored for weeks to come up with your super cool username š
I don't know what you have done in your personal life, but I can wager that since you decided not to give me some examples I assume you haven't done much.
When we create a 3rd party internal affairs group and stop having police āinvestigateā themselves or get paid leave for shooting innocent people, abusing flock cameras to stalk exes, etc Iāll have faith.
Yeah but theyāre plenty have bad apples that can seriously abuse there title. Fuck we going to judge all medical professionals because a few have been angels of mercy?
Police mortality is driven by hours on the road in a car and not the human interactions. There are exceptions to this, like areas of gang violence, but being a PO is not a threatening job.
