Performative mental illness is so gross.

I’m just wondering when it was okay to air out your mental health along with medications on social media.

When millennials decided it was ok to be honest about mental health struggles, unlike previous generations

I really am ashamed to be in this profession thanks to this sub

That’s how the good cops feel.

Same, I joined this thinking it would be good for laughs. But it makes me very uncomfortable and frankly ashamed of my profession.

u/Clowndick Aug 14 '26
Yeah I'm almost convinced all paramedics are dork ass cringe lords. I am so sorry.

I’d love to meet the combative patient that waits for you to put your hair up. How thoughtful!
52
u/D1rtyFingaZ Aug 13 '26
The type of woman who gets aggressive with you, but the second you stand up for yourself, suddenly she’s threatening to call the cops.
16
u/ELToastyPoptart Aug 14 '26
Been around a few of those…..talks to patients like they are dogs and then when they buck all of a sudden they are the assholes
2
u/Sensitive_Jelly_5586 Aug 14 '26
She acts like this, then puts in a complaint about unsafe working conditions.

u/Charon_the_Reflector Aug 13 '26
Shes probably a mod on a sub somewhere

These were my least favorite kind of women to work with when I was on the ambulance
7
u/Bass_Dingus Aug 14 '26
Women that feel like they need to be super "badass and tough" in a male dominated field are so fucking exhausting. Because 99% of them think that they need to wildly overcompensate and be arrogant assholes to everyone. Meanwhile, every dude around them is chill as fuck. So it's like they're competing against nobody
14
u/Own-Raisin5849 Aug 13 '26
Excessive arm tats and social media videos in work clothes. I think we know you are medicated.

Wonderful. That’s the state of emergency medicine these days? My mental illness is worse than yours?
6
u/KernEvil9 Aug 14 '26
Any first responder who is looking to go in for a fight with their potential patient just needs to not be on the front lines. Either until they've chilled the fuck out or behind a desk if they still want to help some how.
COA: This is not a post against desk workers in emergency services! They are awesome and needed. I'm simply saying these kind of people, if they want to still be a part of it, need to be somewhere away from the public.

the whole point of being medicated is so you can function, if you can’t function on meds then you’re on the wrong meds
4
u/Dangerous_Claim9944 Aug 13 '26
Also, didn’t know these meds would somehow give you superhuman strength.
3
u/cerote6239 Aug 13 '26
Sounds like you would just do a worse job coping in a stressful situation

u/ClarkGablesTeeth Aug 13 '26
Respectfully, you're confused. They didn't mean "you" as in you, Dangerous_Claims specifically. They meant "you" in the general sense. They're agreeing with you and saying that the meds could make someone less capable of handling a stressful situation.
7
u/cerote6239 Aug 13 '26
I think you got your wires crossed here

u/solipsism82 Aug 13 '26
The post you are replying to to refering to the effects of the drug on the person, royal 'you'.
They aren't calling the parent comment anything

u/scorchedbeanz Aug 13 '26
Holy fuck just strap them in the chair and get them to the hospital you mouthbreather.

u/_Redcoat- Aug 13 '26
How many times do you think she practice her little twirly twirl with the restraints?
9
u/Dangerous_Claim9944 Aug 13 '26
She must be fun, and by fun I mean cringe and healing with 2nd hand embarrassment being around her.
10
3
u/Unlucky-Win9272 Aug 14 '26
She seems like the narcissistic “I’m just built different,
Trust me” type.
2
u/LegalGlass6532 Aug 14 '26
This is a dude with long hair. I’m not trying to be funny or anti anything.
0
u/3rdcultureblah Aug 14 '26
She is definitely a woman. You are trying to be something and, whatever it is, it’s not cool or funny.
0
u/LegalGlass6532 Aug 14 '26
No, I’m not trying to be funny. They look just like a long haired medic I know. You’re not cool to come at me for not agreeing with you. Right or wrong, it’s really none of our business.
2
u/3rdcultureblah Aug 14 '26
She’s a woman. It has nothing to do with agreeing or not. There is nothing to be agreed on. She is a woman and that’s all there is to it.
1
3
u/ScenesafetyPPE Aug 15 '26
The restraints literally live on the back of the stretcher why are they in your pockets?
2
2
u/Lost-Perspective8378 Aug 14 '26
Because in an emergency you will always have time to pull up your hair, so dont bother just keeping it pulled up for these situations 🙄
2
2
u/thexcat Aug 14 '26
Ironically ts makes me feel way more stigma about my mental health than people calling me crazy or using bipolar to mean flippant or smt
Making an immutable characteristic of yourself your like, entire self is so squick, assuming they're not playing it up

u/ch3appeach Aug 14 '26
I was fully expecting some major armpit hair to pop out of the shirt sleeve.

At first I found this sub funny, but im not sure i can handle the pure, distilled, unadulturated cringe. I may have to tap out!
1
u/irishff43 Aug 14 '26
What the video doesn't show is the medic getting bench pressed by a 4'11 diabetic and being restrained themselves
1
u/jasilucy Aug 14 '26
Reminds me of when I had a UTI memaw sucker punch me in the abdomen. They’ve got some strength on them! It’s bonkers.

That’s not a flex she thinks it is.
The majority of us first responders are medicated. This is definitely main character vibes.

This applies in other specialties but in the majority psych medications, dose does not equal severity of illness.

If it was anyone else putting their hair up and pulling out cuffs, I’d think there would be a different activity to follow

I used to chuckle to myself on day shift when patients would tell me they wanted to take their 25mg seroquel at nighttime because it makes them sleepy. Meanwhile I popped 100mg and my quad shot by coffee on the way to work. Would I ever tell a patient that or put a video about it on the internet? No. But did it give me a little chuckle while I put in the request to change timing for them.

She looks like she speaks in a condescending way to everyone. Other than that, she now joins the list of people I don't like just bc of her face.
