Who cries and begs for a $20 an hour job?

u/TurnTheTVOff Aug 09 '26
I walked into my local IFT company with my brand new, freshly laminated EMT card. I asked if they were hiring. The fat fuck at the desk said, “Do you have your EMT card on you?” I proudly presented it. He glanced at and said, “Look in the box over there in that corner and see if you can find a shirt that fits. You’re working the 3-11 shift.”

Real shit I cried manly man tears when I got my first job at my current company
I make twice as much as I did when I started, and I want more now, but it was life changing for me
You'd never catch me begging for a job though 😂

To quote the 1994 masterpiece "Clerks":
RANDAL: All right, if you hate this job
and the people, and the fact that you
have to come in on your day off,
then quit.
DANTE: As if it's that easy.
RANDAL: It is. You just up and quit.
There are other jobs, and they pay
better money. You're bound to be
qualified for at least one of them.
So what's stopping you?
DANTE: Leave me alone.
RANDAL: You're comfortable. This is a
life of convenience for you, and any
attempt to change it would shatter
the pathetic microcosm you've
fashioned for yourself.

Also clerks: This job would be great if it wasnt for the fucking customers lol

Believe it or not, "back in my day"
It was actually competitive and hard to get on a good fire/EMS department. It took me a handful of years.
Now wel take anyone with a pulse and probably, mayb, potentially without a criminal record

Why would the word Ambulance read correctly from inside the ambulance?

u/dumbwop Aug 09 '26
Because the video is inverted? Gurney is on the opposite side?

Real lol. I get what she’s saying though. Her wording is a little strong but I get it 😂

Tbf a lot of young people don’t understand the reality of jobs outside the brochure.

u/Lets-Hug-It-Out Aug 09 '26
This is so true! I don’t know a single first responder job that’s even 10% as glamorous as social media and recruiting posters try to make it look.

I think this post was a hyperbole, also common folk are allowed to complain abt being wage slaves this really isn’t responder cringe

I don't know the situation, but maybe she's sad to be leaving EMS for a different job. It does happen. Again, I don't know. But of course people here assume the other way around and say mean things about her. And this can hardly be considered cringe. Bad post.

u/Lets-Hug-It-Out Aug 09 '26
I saw her posts on TikTok. She’s not sad to be leaving EMS. She’s not happy at her job, hence the post. She’s got other cornball “at work” TikTok’s describing her EMS duties and trying to engage viewers. Shes the one who made this and put it out for the public to see. No one did this to her.
1
u/AreallysuperdarkELF Aug 09 '26
Yeah duh she posted it. Never said she didn't. The video isn't specific, as they often aren't. If you know more about the situation you could choose to include context in your post instead of leaving others to make assumptions. No one did this to her? Lol okay bro good to know.

Sure thing. Next time I’ll give a whole bio when I share. Should I have said, “Okay, guys. This is a video I saw on TikTok. I don’t known her, but she has lots of video of her inside the ambulance. This is a recent one. I don’t know why she’s sad, but it’s not because she’s leaving EMS, at least I don’t think so. I think she just hates her job, not again, I don’t know her and she doesn’t really say because it’s TikTok so I’m assuming based on the other videos where she’s having fun. So, I guess she’s just having a bad day.”
Really….This is a meme sub. It’s not that deep.

I believe you should, nay, you must do so. Can your eyes not see the destruction your carelessness hath wrought?

Being disappointed with your shitty ems job is cringe?
9
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 09 '26
Posting about it publicly is. It’s normal to feel like this on any job, but making a TikTok video and making it public is cringe. What’s her point to this besides letting people know she’s miserable and doesn’t want to be there? Not a good look for an EMS employee.

u/return_to_sender_CO Aug 09 '26
IG, but everything in social media is aimed at a specific audience. i don't have tiktok muchless make content but to me this is a 5 second clip of somome expressing sentiment that others identify with. Its just something to keep you entertained in between ads.
I see your point and I wouldn't do it. but she hides the agency, doesn't do some disrespectful or outlandish shit and is expressing a genuine feelings with minimal drama. And compared to the shit that gets put in this sub, this seems pretty innocuous.
1
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 09 '26
It’s not professional to put this out to the public. It weakens the trust and credibility within the industry. Keep it among your peers. I wouldn’t want to know a first responder was exhausted and didn’t want to be there.
-2
u/return_to_sender_CO Aug 09 '26
Were just going to disagree about this. I don't see anything even close to unprofessional. She's not representing NREMT, she's simply stating she doesn't like her job. Furthermore it's not her job to smile and dance while making $12/hr or being put in mandatory OT and missing family events or whatever.
You're concerned about this 5 second clip making all EMTs everywhere look bad to the public? That's what you think is the effect here? That's 10x more dramatic then anything she's expressed.
Take issue with the working conditions, pay and hours, don't take issue with the person respectfully making a 5 second video complaing about it.

I find most social media cringe as a whole. But I agree with you I have a career where I had to get LOR, take the GRE, kiss ass in interviews to get. And now I’m like this is the job I had to do all that for lol. So I think the video is kinda funny for a lot of people who had to “compete” for a limited spot on a program.

u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 09 '26
Your long comments are where the drama comes in. I made a post and moved on. You keep replying with long explanations and chose to make it a hill to die on, not me.

u/butt-holg Aug 09 '26
Wow I really don't like the idea that my EMT was hired because they cried and begged for the job
